Lead bearing ores of all kinds containing more than 3 per centum of lead, -cent a pound on the lead contained therein: Provided, That on all importations of lead bearing ores the duties shall be estimated at the Lead port of entry, and a bond given in double the amount of such esBearing Ores timated duties for the transportation of the ores by common carriers bonded for the transportation of appraised or unappraised merchandise to properly equipped sampling or smelting establishments, whether designated as bonded warehouses or otherwise. On the arrival of the ores at such establishments they shall be sampled according to commercial methods under the supervision of government officers, who shall be stationed at such establishments, and who shall submit the samples thus obtained to a government assayer, designated by the Secretary of the Treasury, who shall make a proper assay of the sample and report the result to the proper customs officers, and the import entries shall be liquidated thereon, except in case of ores that shall be removed to a bonded warehouse to be refined for exportation as provided by law. And the Secretary of the Treasury is authorized to make all necessary regulations to enforce the provisions of this paragraph.

Sugars, tank bottoms, sirups of cane juice, melada, concentrated melada, concrete and concentrated molasses, testing by the polariscope not above 75 degrees, seventy-one one-hundredths of 1 cent a pound, and for every addiSirups. tional degree shown by the polariscopic test, twenty-six one-thousandths of 1 cent a pound additional, and fractions of a degree in proportion; molasses testing not above 40 degrees, 15 per centum ad valorem; testing above 40 degrees and not above 56 degrees, 2 cents a gallon; testing above 56 degrees, 42 cents a gallon: sugar drainings and sugar sweepings shall be subject to duty as molasses or sugar, as the case may be, according to polariscopic test: Provided, That the duties imposed in this paragraph shall be effective on and after March 1, 1914, until which date the rates of duty provided by paragraph 216 of the tariff act approved August 5, 1909, shall remain in force: Provided, however, That so much of paragraph 216 of an act to provide revenue, equalize duties and encourage the industries of the United States, and for other purposes, approved August 5. 1909, as relates to the color test denominated as number 16 Dutch standard in color, shall be and is hereby repealed: Provided further, That on and after May 1, 1916, the articles hereinbefore enumerated in this paragraph shall be admitted free of duty.

178. Maple sugar and maple sirup, 3 cents a pound; glucose or grape sugar, 1% cents a pound; sugar cane in its natural state, or unmanufactured, 15 per centum ad valorem: Provided, That on and after May 1, 1916, the articles hereinbefore enumerated in this paragraph shall be admitted free of duty.

The term wrapper tobacco as used in this section means that quality of leaf tobacco which has the requisite color, texture and burn, and is of sufficient size for cigar wrappers, and the term filler tobacco means all other leaf tobacco. Collectors of customs shall not permit entry to be made, except under regulations to be prescribed by the Secretary of the Treasury, of any leaf tobacco, unless the invoices of the same shall specify in detail the character of such tobacco, whether wrapper or filler, its origin and quality. In the examination for classification of any imported leaf tobacco, at least one bale, box or package in every ten, and at least one in every invoice, shall be examined by the appraiser or person authorized by law to make such examination, and at least ten hands shall he examined in each examined bale, box or package.

All other tobacco, manufactured or unmanufactured, not specially provided for in this section, 55 cents a pound; scrap tobacco, 35 cents a pound. 184. Snuff and snuff flour, manufactured of tobacco, ground dry or damp, and pickled, scented or otherwise, of all descriptions, 55 cents a pound.

Apples, peaches. quinces, cherries, plums and pears, green or ripe. 10 cents a bushel of 50 pounds; berries, edible, in their natural condition, cent a quart; cranberries, 10 per centum ad valorem; all edible fruits, including berries, when dried, desiccated, evaporated or prepared in any manner, not specially provided for in this section, 1 cent a pound; comfits, sweetmeats and fruits of all kinds preserved or packed in sugar, or having sugar added thereto or preserved or packed in molasses, spirits or their own juices, if containing no alcohol, or containing not over 10 per centum of alcohol, 20 per centum ad valorem; if containing over 10 per centum of alcohol and not specially provided for in this section, 20 per centum ad valorem, and in addition $250 a proof gallon on the alcohol contained therein in excess of 10 per centum; jellies of all kinds, 20 per centum ad valorem; pine:pples preserved in their own juice, 20 per centum ad valorem, 218. Figs, 2 cents a pound; plums, prunes and prunelles, 1 cent a pound;
