57.-LATE EVENING

PRAYERS.

In the Name. Our Father. O LORD, fulfil all Thy works of grace in me, that I may fulfil all the service that I owe Thee; through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

O Heavenly Father, for Thine own great mercies' sake; for Thy truth and promises' sake; for the sake of all the merits and sufferings of the Son of Thy love: pardon all my sins and failings, and receive me into Thy favour. Amen.

LORD, forsake us not in the vanishing of our days; but

still continue Thy gracious | hast redeemed me, O Lord, Thou

and fatherly care over us. Be Thou our Light and Defence, our Guide and Guard, through the valley of the shadow of death to the holy hill of Thine honour and our rest; for JESUS CHRIST'S sake. Amen.

Almighty Father, grant us, we beseech Thee, Thy grace; that we, who reverently make a remembrance of the Incarnation, Nativity, Passion, Resurrection, and Ascension of the Son; and also of the Coming of the Holy Ghost; may, by the grace of the same Holy Ghost, rise from the death of the soul, and with Thee live an eternal life, through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

Let Thy mighty hand and stretched-out arm, O LORD, be ever our defence; Thy mercy and loving-kindness in JESUS CHRIST, Thy dear Son, our salvation; Thy true and holy word, our instruction; Thy grace and Holy Spirit, our comfort and consolation, this night and for evermore. Amen.

LORD, lighten mine eyes: That I sleep not in death.

Grant us, O LORD, Thy Light: That we, being saved from the darkness of our hearts, may come to the True Light Which is Christ.

Father, into Thy Hands I commend myself, my spirit, soul, and body: For Thou

God of Truth.

LORD, save us as we wake, keep us as we sleep: That we may watch with Christ and rest in peace.

May the souls of all the faithful departed, by the mercy of GOD, rest in the peace of JESUS CHRIST. Amen.

JESU, in my hour of Rest,

After life's long weary day, In Thy Arms and on Thy Breast

Let me breathe my life away!

The GOD of mercy and peace be with us and ours, and with all that need His blessing, this night and for ever. Amen.

58. THE EVENING.

Daily Self-Examination.
O Fount of mercy,
Light of heaven,
Our darkness cast away;
And grant us all,

Through Thee forgiven,
To see the perfect day.

Did I think of GOD when I awoke?

Did I rise in good time? Did I say my prayers, fully and devoutly?

Have I remembered GOD'S Presence through the day?

How far have I kept my good resolutions?

Have I guarded my heart against evil thoughts?

Have I sinned with my O, say not so: thou canst not tongue? tell what strength

Have I done anything wrong?

How far have I yielded to temptation?

Have gone in the way of temptation?

Have I been diligent, honest, and cheerful in my work? Have I been moderate in food?

Have I been kind to others?

Thy GOD may give thee at the length:

Renew thy vows, and if thou keep the last,

Thy GoD will pardon all that's past.

Vow while thou canst: while thou canst vow thou may'st Perhaps perform it when thou thinkest least.

Have I done anything for Thy God hath not denied thee GOD's Glory?

Whether we sleep or wake

To Thee we both resign: By night we see as well as day, If Thy Light on us shine. Whether we live or die,

Both we submit to Thee: In death we live, as well as life, If thine in death we be.

Glory to Thee, Great GOD,

One co-eternal Three; To Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Eternal glory be. Amen.

O may my Guardian, while I sleep,

Close to my bed his vigils keep;

His love angelical instil,
Stop all the avenues of ill.
May he celestial joy rehearse,

Under Thy protection take: Songs in the night season give;

Let me sleep to Thee and wake;

Let me die to Thee and live.

Only tell me I am Thine
And Thou wilt not quit
Thy right;

Answer me in dreams divine, Dreams and visions of the night:

Bid me even in sleep go on,

Restlessly my GOD desire; Mourn for GOD in every groan, GOD in every thought require.
