Do the storm-clouds lower, | Why must I either fly or Is your path beset with foes,

Mighty in their power?— Trust in JESUS, trust in JESUS, See: He stands beside you, With His arm outstretched to save,

How can harm betide you?

Are the friends you loved so truly

Friends, alas! no longer; When their love should deeper be,

Truer still and stronger?JESUS loves you, JESUS loves

you,

And He longs to take you To that Sacred Heart of His; He will not forsake you.

Fear not, halt not, faithful pilgrim;

JESUS doth befriend you; And, by loving angel guards, Will from harm defend you. When the toilsome march is

over,

yield,

Since JESUS is my mighty Shield?

I know not what may soon betide,

Or how my wants may be supplied,

But JESUS knows, and will provide.

Though faint my prayers, and cold my love, My stedfast hope shall not remove,

While JESUS intercedes above.

Against me earth and hell combine;

But on my side is Power Divine;

JESUS is all, and He is mine!

51.-MORNING PRAYERS.

In the Name of the + Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

Our Father, Which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in Earth, As it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil: For Thine is the Kingdom, The Power, and the Glory, For ever and ever. Amen.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:

And in JESUS CHRIST His only Son our LORD, Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,

Suffered under Pontius Pilate; Was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of GOD the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; The Holy Catholic Church; The Communion of Saints; The The Forgiveness of Sins; Resurrection of the Body, And the life everlasting. Amen.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;

As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

I laid me down and slept, and rose up again; for the LORD sustained me.

Keep me, O LORD, this day without sin.

Guard my going out and my coming in, henceforth and for ever.

Shew Thou me the way that I should walk in, for I lift up my soul unto Thee.

LORD, bless and help me, that I may every day grow more fit for Thy service. Hear my prayers, pardon my failings, be with me in my work, supply my wants, and give me grace to live in Thy fear all the day long; for JESUS CHRIST's sake. Amen.

[blocks in formation]

O Lamb of GOD That takest away the sin of the world: Have mercy upon us.

LORD of goodness and mercy, Who didst send Thine own Son to a Cross, to bring me to a Crown; and at the price of His most bitter Passion didst purchase my salvation. Let this love of Thine be ever in my heart, and let the fruits of it abound in my life. Teach me to hate sin more than death, because it made Thy Son to die. And may nothing in this life be too dear to me; lest I sin against my Saviour, Who has made me by His death to live.

LORD, let me give up all I have and all I am to Thee, Who gavest Thy Dear Son a sacrifice for me; that I may do Thy will all my days, and may dwell with Thee for ever and ever. Amen.

Guide Thou my way,
Who art Thyself
My everlasting end;
That every step,
Or swift or slow,
Still to Thyself may tend.

The blessing of GOD Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be with us this day, the rest of our lives, and evermore. Amen.

53.-NINE O'CLOCK.

In the Name. Our Father. O Thou Who at the third hour didst send to Thine Apos

[blocks in formation]

Send forth Thy Spirit, and they shall be made: And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.

GOD, Who didst teach the hearts of Thy faithful people by the sending to them the light of Thy Holy Spirit: Grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgment in all things, and evermore to rejoice in His holy comfort; through the merits of CHRIST JESUS Our Saviour, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee, in the unity of the same Spirit, one GOD, world without end. Anien.

Save and deliver and justify us, O Blessed Trinity.

Amen.

Blessed be the Name of the LORD. From this time forth for evermore.

Almighty and everlasting GOD, Who hast given unto us Thy servants grace by the

confession of a true Faith to acknowledge the Glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of the Divine Majesty to worship the Unity: We beseech Thee that Thou wouldest keep us stedfast in this

Faith, and evermore defend us from all adversities; Who livest and reignest, one GOD, world without end. Amen.

We worship Thee, O CHRIST, and we bless Thee. For by Thy Cross and Precious Blood

Thou hast redeemed the world.

LORD JESUS CHRIST, Son of the Living GOD: Set Thy Passion, Thy Cross, and Thy Death between Thy judgment and our souls, now and in the hour of our death. Give to the living mercy and grace, to the departed rest and peace, to the Church and the kingdom peace and concord, to the sick help and comfort, to our friends and enemies true charity, and to us sinners life and endless glory: Who livest and reignest, with the Father and the Holy Ghost, one GOD for ever and ever. Amen.

Live, JESUS, live;
And let it be
My life to die

For love of Thee;
And grant mine eyes
One day to see
The sweet reward

Of love in Thee.

May the Sacred Trinity, + Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, bless us and ours, this day Amen. and for ever.

54. TWELVE O'CLOCK. In the Name. Our Father. O Thou, Who, at the sixth hour, didst nail the sins of the

world with Thy Body to the Cross Blot out the handwriting of my sins which is against me, and take it out of the way, and save me.

We ought to glory in the Cross of our LORD JESUS CHRIST. Amen.

O GOD, Who hast ascended Thy most holy Cross, and hast given light to the darkness of the world: Vouchsafe to enlighten, visit, and comfort both our hearts and bodies; Who livest and reignest GOD, world without end.

Amen.

Blest be that hour,
When He repaired my loss;
I never will

Forget my Saviour's Cross.

LORD JESUS CHRIST, Son of the Living GOD, Who for our redemption in the sixth hour didst ascend the cross and shed Thy blood through Thy five wounds, for the remission of our sins: We meekly beseech Thee, that, through the merits of the same Passion we may enter the gate of Paradise; Who livest and reignest GOD, with GOD the Father in the unity of GOD the Holy Ghost, world without end. Amen.

LORD, Who for me Didst on the Tree Open Thine heart of love: My Peace in strife, In death my Life, O help me from above!

May the glorious +Passion of our LORD JESUS CHRIST deliver us from sorrowful heaviness, and bring us to the joys of Paradise. Amen.

55.-THREE O'CLOCK. In the Name. Our Father.

O Thou, Who at the ninth hour didst taste death for the sins of every man: Mortify all my members, which are upon the earth, even all things that are contrary to Thy holy will, and save me.

O LORD JESUS CHRIST, Who hast power over all things, and Whose will none can resist; Who didst vouchsafe to be born, to die, and to rise: By the mystery of Thy most holy Body, and by Thy five wounds, and by the shedding of Thy most precious Blood, have mercy on us, and give us all things needful for our souls and bodies; save us from the temptations of the devil, and from all things that thou knowest to be troubles to us; keep us and strengthen us in Thy service unto the end; give us space for repentance and true amendment of life; make us all love one another; and grant us with all Thy saints in Thy kingdom to have joy without end; Who livest and reignest GOD, with GOD the Father and GOD the Holy Ghost, forever and ever. Amen. O Saviour of the world,
