PART IV.-ALL THE DAY LONG.

"They rest not day and night, saying Holy, Holy, Holy, LORD GOD Almighty."-Revelations iv. 8,

[blocks in formation]

Thoughts.

And always watch thy sliding feet;

Think where thou once hast fallen before;

And mark the place, and fall

no more.

Think on the helps thy God bestows,

And cast to steer thy life by those;

Think on the sweets thy soul did fill,

When thou didst well, and do so still.

Think on the pains that shall torment

Those stubborn souls that ne'er repent;

Think on those joys that wait above,

To crown the head of holy love.

Open thine eyes, my soul, and Think what at last will be

care,

The gilded baits of worldly love.

Thee may I set at my right hand,

Whose eyes mine inmost substance see;

And labour on at Thy command,

And offer all my works to

Thee.

Give me to bear Thy easy yoke,

And every moment watch and pray;

And still to things eternal look,

And hasten to Thy glorious day:

For Thee delightfully employ Whate'er Thy bounteous grace hath given; And run my course with even joy,

And closely walk with Thee to heaven.

Amen.

Ejaculations. Going out. O send out Thy light and Thy truth, that they may lead me.

Going to Church. LORD, I have loved the habitation of Thy house.

At Work. Labour is sweet, for Thou hast toiled.

Thinking. O let not mine heart be inclined to any evil thing.

Talking. Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth.

Actions of the Day. Let me not be occupied in ungodly works with the men that work wickedness.

In doubt. Teach me, O LORD, to do the thing that pleaseth Thee.

Tempted. LORD JESUS + save me, help me, keep me. After a Sin. GOD be merciful to me a sinner.

be done. Blessed be the Name Sorrow or Loss. Thy will of the LORD.

When the clock strikes. LORD, teach me to number my days.

Aspirations.

May Thy death, LORD JESUS, be the life of my soul!

LORD JESUS, live in me, and let me live in Thee! LORD JESUS, be Thou my Saviour, now and at the hour of my death!

LORD, teach me to love Thee with all my heart, with all my mind, with all my soul, and with all my strength.

The LORD make me pure in my thoughts, kind in my words, wise in my deeds, obedient to His laws, and thankful for His favours.

LORD, keep me from all sin and danger this day.

LORD, make my service acceptable to Thee while I live, and my soul ready for Thee when I die.

Teach me, LORD, to submit my desires to reason, my reason to faith, and my whole self to Thee.

In all my ways I desire to acknowledge Thee: do Thou O LORD, direct my paths.

LORD, command what Thou pleasest, and let it be my pleasure to do what Thou commandest.

O LORD, my GOD; call me, that I may come to Thee; fix me, that I may not leave Thee.

LORD, teach me to trust Thy care, to be resigned to Thy will, and to do Thy work.

May the will of GOD, which is most high, most just, and most deserving of all love, be done, praised, and exalted for ever above all things!

Seeking Thee, to find Thee; Finding Thee, to love Thee; Loving Thee, to follow Thee.

LORD, let me ever Run the race set before me, Walk in Thy ways, Stand in Thy grace, Sit at Thy feet, Kneel in devotion, Fall down in adoration, and Lie down in Thy peace.

LORD, may I at last Sleep in Thee, Wake up in Thy likeness, Rise by Thy power, and Reign in Thy glory, for JESUS CHRIST's sake. Amen

Blessed JESU! put Thy Innocence between my soul and my impurity: Thy Obedience between my soul and my iniquity: Thy Agony between my soul and my impiety: Thy Priesthood and Sacrifice between my soul and my guilt: Thy Passion between my soul and my punishment: Thy Intercession between my soul and my indevotion: Thy Kingdom and Conquest between my soul and my enemies.

For what Thou didst and what Thou sufferedst, O! my dearest Saviour, O! my best of Masters, was done and suffered in my stead, and for my benefit. Amen.

Hymns.

Shine on our souls, Eternal
GOD,

With rays of beauty shine! O let Thy favour crown our days,

And all their round be
Thine!

Did we not raise our hands to Thee,

Our hands might toil in vain;

Small joy success itself could give,

If Thou Thy love restrain. With Thee let every week begin,

With Thee each day be spent ;

For Thee each fleeting hour improved,

Since each by Thee is lent.

Thus cheer us through this desert road,

Till all our labours cease; And Heaven refresh our weary souls

With everlasting peace.
Amen.
