McLane, the House resolved itself into the Committee of the Whole House on the state of the Union; and after some time spent therein, the Speaker resumed the chair, and Mr. Meade reported that the committee having, according to order, had the state of the Union generally under consideration, and particularly the bill of the House (No. 348) "making appropriations for the improvement of certain harbors and rivers," had directed him to report the same with an amend ment.
