Whereupon the Speaker announced that the motion to indefinitely postpone was lost. Thereupon the motion to adopt the Resolution was put and carried.

H. R. No. 3, by Mr. Dickey, reading as follows:

Resolved, that the several Standing Committees of the House meet immediately after adjournment and make arrangements for examination of the several departments with reference to the salaries of the employees and report thereon on Monday morning.

Mr. Dickey moved that the Resolution be adopted. Seconded by Mr. Makainai. Carried.

On motion of Mr. Mahoe, the House thereupon adjourned. until May 13th, 1901.

Excused---Mr. Beckley---1.

Absent---Messrs. Dickey, Ewaliko, Gilfillan, Hoogs, Kumalae and Robertson---6.

The Journal of Proceedings of the preceding day, May 10th, was read and approved.

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES.

The following Standing Committees reported progress, according to the terms of:

H. R. No. 3, by Mr. Dickey, instructing the several Committees to examine the several departments with reference to salaries, etc., and were granted further time.

The Committee on Public Lands and Internal Improvements, by Mr. Makainai, Chairman.

The Committee on Agriculture and Manufactures, by Mr. Prendergast, Chairman.

The Committee on Finance, by Mr. Emmeluth, Chairman.

RESOLUTIONS.

The following Resolutions were introduced:

H. C. R. No. 3, by Mr. Emmeluth, requesting the Officers' Club to vacate the Bungalow for the accommodation of the Fire Claims Commission appointed under authority of Act 15 of the Session Laws of 1901. Mr. Emmeluth moved that the Resolution be adopted. Seconded by Mr. Monsarrat. Upon the objec tion on the part of Mr. Robertson that neither the location nor quarters were suitable for the Court, Mr. Emmeluth, with the consent of the seconder, withdrew the Resolution.

H. R. No. 4, by Mr. Prendergast, requesting the Auditor to furnish a copy in full of Police Department pay roll for the month of April, 1901, for the City of Honolulu and Island of Oahu. Mr. Prendergast moved that the Resolution be adopted. On motion of Mr. Ewaliko, seconded by Mr. Kumalae, the Resolution was amended by striking out all the words after the date, so as to make it apply to the entire Territory. Whereupon the Resolution was adopted as amended.

H. R. No. 5, by Mr. Dickey, reading as follows:

Resolved, that the petitions and resolutions and reports of Committees which were received during the Regular Session and laid on the table to be considered with the Appropriation Bill, be laid on the table of this Extra Session, to be considered with Appropriation Bills.

Mr. Dickey moved that the Resolution be adopted. Seconded by Mr. Emmeluth. Carried.

BILLS ON THIRD READING.

The following Bill came up for consideration upon its third reading:

H. B. No. 1, by Mr. Makekau, entitled "An Act to appropriate money for the purpose of defraying the expenses of the

Extra Session and the unpaid bills of the Regular Session of the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii of the year 1901, from the public treasury." Mr. Mahoe moved that the Bill do Seconded by Mr. Keliikoa. Upon this motion, the ayes and noes were called, with the following result:

Ayes--Messrs. Ahulii, Aylett, Dickey, Ewaliko, Gilfillan. Haaheo, Hihio, Kaauwai, Kauimakaole, Kaniho, Kawaihoa, Kekaula, Keliikoa, Kumalae, Mahoe, Makainai, Makekau, Mossman, Nailima, Pacle, Prendergast, Puuki, Robertson, Wilcox and Mr. Speaker---25.

Whereupon the Speaker announced that the said Bill, having received the affirmative votes of a majority of all the members elected to the House, had passed the House.

On motion of Mr. Dickey, seconded by Mr. Keliikoa, the following Bill was read by title:

H. B. No. 2, by the Committee on Finance, entitled “An Act making appropriations for salaries and pay rolls during the two years which will end with the Thirtieth day of June, A. D. 1903." Carried.

On motion of Mr. Makekau, seconded by Mr. Robertson, the House thereupon adjourned.

REPORTS AND COMMUNICATIONS FROM

HEADS OF DEPARTMENTS.

A communication from the Auditor, giving full Police Department pay roll of the Territory for the month of April last, was read. Mr. Robertson moved that consideration of the communication be postponed, to be taken up with H. B. No. 2, by the Committee on Finance, entitled "An Act making appropria tions for salaries and pay rolls during the two years which will end with the Thirtieth day of June, A. D. 1903." Mr. Paele moved that the communication be printed. Motion to print carried.

RESOLUTIONS.

The following Resolution was introduced:

H. C. R. No. 4, by Mr. Emmeluth, reading as follows: Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate Concurring: That a Committee to consist of nine members, six to

be appointed by the Speaker of the House, and three to be appointed by the President of the Senate, be appointed to proceed immediately on appointment to Quarantine Island and inspect the condition of persons there detained and report their findings to this Legislature.

That until the Committee do report, the Board of Health be directed to permit no persons of this Territory to depart from said Quarantine Island.

That a copy of this Resolution be immediately forwarded to the President of the Board of Health and that said Committee be instructed to report their findings to the Legislature not later than the tenth day of this Session.

Mr. Emmeluth moved that the Resolution be adopted. Seconded by Mr. Kaniho. Carried.

On motion of Mr. Makekau, seconded by Mr. Keiki, the House thereupon stood in recess until 2 o'clock p. m.
