OPINIONS OF THE PRESS.

Of course there is no lack of material for producing a deeply thrilling work, for the life and times of Herod were marked by the most extraordinary events in the world's history. The story is deeply interesting, and will be read, we have no doubt, by multitudes with absorbing attention. Several fine engravings adorn the work, among which we notice a very beautiful one of Mariamne, and another of the sour-faced visage of Herod.-Christian Secretary, Hartford, Conn.

This is a tale of an awe-arousing epoch in veritable history, presented in the form, and with all the interest of romance. It is a narrative of scenes in the life and at the death of Mariamne, the favorite and most beautiful of King Herod's wives. It is written with much elegance and vigor, and while its interest is of that unflagging kind which precludes the possibility of laying it aside unfinished, it fixes in the mind indelibly a series of events of the wondrous era of the salvation of the human race, with which every Christian should be familiar. Who the author is we have no idea, but we should like to get hold of anything and everything of hers which bears as powerful an impress of genius as does this work before

-Old Colony Memorial, Plymouth, Mass. We have read with pleasure this thrilling story of the beautiful but unfortunate Queen of Herod, the bloody tyrant of Judea. Every reader of the New Testament History will be interested in this book, containing, as it does, a detailed narrative of the lives of some of the most prominent actors in those great events which preceded the advent of Christ and the destruction of Jerusalem.- Whig and Courier, Bangor, Me.
