tiscause we oelieve trie pinon tree is a female.

44. We also offer '.ne afterbirtn to a tree which creates a life long bond between tne person and that tree. You must see that no harm comes to that tree because if it does it may endanger you. In that way you are also introduced to the spiritual beings of the area. Prayers are continually made for tne child through the spiritual beings to the Holy People for the healtn and welfare of the child.

45. When a baby is born, the Holy People give it speech and thougnt. Life is also given to this baby when it is born. A baby is a gift from the Holy People.

46. When a baby is born, whether it is a boy or girl, prayers are offered for the roles that they will have. For the livelihood they will nave as a young boy or girl. The Holy People receive tnese prayers.

47. All of our prayers and offerings can only be made at particular places where it is possible to communicate witn the Holy People. These sites are sacred. We cannot bring them witn us if we move. That is why we must stay here where our offering places are.

48. We make offering to many different types of places sucn as buttes, mountains, rocks, hills, flat areas, springs, etc. But we cannot substitute any rock for the rock formations that are sacred to us, we cannot substitute any butte for our sacred buttes. Only at the places where we know the spiritual oeings and only places where certain conditions occur where it is possiole to communicate with the Holy People can we practice our religion

49. Here on our land we know tne soiritual beings. Here on our land we Know where the special conditions occur such as rocks that talk back to you.

5U. This grass right here, when it grows in a ring, that is where we offer. We also offer to a certain formation of rocks -- Tsennadjinn or "Talking Rocks." Also to the open land. But not just any open land, grass in a ring, etc., but where we know the spiritual beings and where the conditions are right and tne Holy People will hear our prayers.

51. The north point of 3ig Mountain is a .nain offering place. Long, long ago there was a hogan there. Some anthropologists dug into it a couple of years ago. So.ne of our own people must nave shown them. We are not all the same in our neaus. Some only think of Washington.

52. This is the way the Creator instructed us. Every day you make offerings upon her, in tne morning, afternoon, and in the evening. Any time you feel troubled about something, you make an offering and pray about it.

53. The Little Colorado River we believe is a woman, it's a place for offerings. Before you cross that river you make an offering then you pass over and proceed on your way. Every offering place nas a name, you call upon their names when you make offerings. Even the rivers that overlap each other by Grand Canyon nas a name. The one on top is a male river, the one on tne ootton is a feuale river. When you go there you can aiso see ii rainoow aoove tne rivers. We make offerings in many distant places. We oelieve in these sacred offering places.

54. We make offerings to certain mountains alsc. They are Holy places placea Dy the Holy People. We Oelieve in these places, therefore we pray at all these places. We just don't pray to one place. There are many places at which we make offerings. Even right around here there are many places to 50 to ndke an offering ano pray.

55. These places are sacred to me, it is nere where I can communicate with tne Holy People, not somewhere else. These pldces were placed here for us by the Holy People.

56. If we are to make our offerings at a new place, tne spiritual oeinjs would not know us. We would not know the inountains or the significance of tnem. We would not know the land and tne land would not know us. It would not be the sa.iie as our own homeland. We would not Know the sacred places, we would not know the na.nes of these places. I f we were to go on top of an unfamiliar mountain we would not know the life forms that dwell there. It would be a strange place for us.

57. I visit the sacred sites on my land on a regular oasis. Each site has a purpose and I pray there or make the appropriate offerings depending upon the situation. Some types of offerings we make several times a day such as offering corn pollen at dawn, noon, and at dusk outside my hogan. I maKe tnese offerings every single day. How could I live somewhere else and still make my offerings three times a day at my hogan. I must idke tnese offerings outside my hogan, so how can I move somewhere else.

58. I make offerings at tne other places I mentioned before too. I cannot tell you where these places are because tnat is sacred knowledge. But these places are sacred to me, I cannot practice my religion anywhere else. Some places such as tne spring or rock altar near my hogan I go to and pray or nake offerings for my children, I go there very often. Othsr olaces I pray for my livestock, etc.

59. All of these places were given to us for a purpose. I visit these places and pray there on a regular basis. You cannot take these places away fro.n me or ne away from these places. I do not take the white man away from his religion.

SU. This law that was imposed on us had a great i.npact jn the elderly women like me. We suffer from all kinds of ailments. We ache all over and we do not have strength because we think about what's being imposed on us all the time. It's our daily thoughts and making us sick.

61. It is a hardship for us and not good for us. Plans of removal are being talked about without consenting us.

62. This law that was imposed on us, we can pray about it as something we just imagined or maybe it was just a mirage. Sometning we thought we saw or something that's not realistic. We can make offerings in this way. Offerings are made so tnat bad dreams will not happen.

63. If you dreamed that one of your relatives Mad uieo, you pray for that person to live to reach old age. You pray so it wouldn't happen. If you imagined something, you can also make offerings.

64. There are many spiritual beings you can make offerings to. You can never tell all aoout it. There are ;ny ways to make offerings for various reasons. This is the way we »ers told and we tell about these tnings in the same manner.

65. The Earth was made our Mother, therefore you can Iijkb offerings to her to pray for yourself. The four inountains that I mentioned was originally placed in the form of a hogan. Tne four main poles were positioned in the same way the mountains were made. The two doorway poles were also placed as the two mountains that make up the doorway. We were placed inside here tJ live.

66. Sometimes I lay a*axe at night thinking this way. I tnink aouut tnis so called Washington. What Kino of being is it. This Washington is very tricky and manipulative. What kind of oeing is this Washington, always naking plans that are inhuman

.far us. He just plans and plans without thinking that we are numan beings and tnat we are alive.

67. Wasnington has come and taken away all our sheep. Washington doesn't let our children ouild new homes. Washington doesn't have any heat. Do they realize the prooiems these programs cause, how these things affect us? How can we survive without our sheep? I used to nave hundreds of sheep, now I have
