2. Chemical and physical requirements

a. Chemical requirements: Material shall conform to the following chemical specifications for the appropriate Grade:

[blocks in formation]

Tin content is to be determined as the difference between 100 percent and the total content of the listed impurities, whether or not maximum limits for each such impurity are specified.

b. Physical requirements: All material shall be in the form of pigs. Pigs may be of any size and shape usual with the producer, but all pigs comprising a single shipment shall be of the same nominal size and shape. The surface of the pigs shall be clean and free from foreign material.

All pigs shall be legibly marked with the producer's Brand name, either in casting or by stamping or indelibly printing. Each shipment shall be identified with the name of the producer.

3. Packaging

Pigs may be supplied loose or in any standard type of container. Containers shall be so constructed as to withstand rough handling. All containers comprising a given shipment shall be of the same nominal size and shape.

4. Inspection

Except in the case of "qualified" Brands, as defined below, each shipment shall be subject to inspection and analysis by the purchaser or its designee to determine conformity with the chemical requirements for the Grade to which supplied and to other requirements of this specification.

The purchaser will from time to time designate "qualified" Brands, stipulating the effective period of such qualification. In the instance of such "qualified" Brands, the chemical inspection requirement will be waived for material produced within the ffective qualification period.

Qualification shall be accomplished, at the request of the supplier, by submission to the purchaser of satisfactory evidence that the immediately preceding six months' production of the Brand to be qualified averaged within the chemical limits of the Grade under which qualification is desired, and that not more than 10 percent of that production has fallen outside said specification, and to only a nominal degree. Upon acceptance of the above evidence, the purchaser will then designate the Brand as "qualified" for the appropriate Grade. All material bearing that Brand, and which was produced during the six-month period immediately preceding qualification, or is produced during a stated effective period immediately following qualification, will be accepted as good delivery against this specification without chemical inspection.
