Resolved, That the bill entitled "An act to incorporate St. Joseph's Asylum, in the city of New York," be recommitted to the committee on charitable and religious societies, to report complete.

Mr. Pratt offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the bill entitled "An act to amend an act passed April 15, 1857, entitled 'An act to provide for the appointment of commissioners for the adjustment and payment of certain claims for services of the militia of this State, in the war of 1812," be referred to the first committee of the whole.

On motion of Mr. Brandreth,

Resolved, That the petition and papers on which the bill for the relief of Nicholas B. Doe and Gertrude Doe, passed the session of the Senate of 1857, be taken from the files of the Senate and referred to the committee on the judiciary.

By unanimous consent, Mr. Spinola moved to suspend the rule, in order to enable him to offer the following resolution.

Resolved, That the bill entitled "An act to provide for payment of a deficiency in the revenue of the city of Brooklyn," be recommitted to the committee on the incorporation of cities and villages, with power to report complete.

Resolved, That the bill entitled "An act further to amend the act entitled 'An act to incorporate the Montgomery County Mutual Insurance Company,' passed March 30, 1836," be taken from the committee of the whole and referred back to the committee on insurance companies, with power to report complete.

On motion of Mr. Hubbell,

Resolved, That the Canal Commissioners be requested to report to the Senate, as soon as practicable, the estimated expense of raising the canal bridges that are not now nineteen feet from the bottom of the canal, on each division of the canal under their charge; also the probable land damages that will be occasioned by raising the bridges nineteen feet above the bottom of the canal; and also as to the present necessity of raising the bridges to the above height.

Mr. Pratt called for the consideration of the following resolutions: Resolved, (if the Assembly concur,) That our Senators and Representatives in Congress be requested to urge the passage of a law by which books for copyright, in the Southern district of this State, may be deposited of record, in the Library of the New York State Historical Society; and those in the Northern district, in the State Library.

Resolved, That the Governor be requested to transmit this resolution to our Senators and Representatives at the opening of the next session of Congress.
