Worldwide data on land costs, buildings' floor area and costs, and structures' costs are not available because, for security reasons, Department of Defense reports only total cost and total land area data on its holdings outside the United States. The U.S. charts reflect a change in coverage between 1958 and 1960. Through 1958 Alaska and Hawaii were included in the statistics on "outlying areas." In 1959, data for civil agencies in Alaska was added to the U.S. inventory. In 1960, data for Department of Defense in Alaska and Hawaii, and for civil agencies in Hawaii, was added to the U.S. inventory.
