HAGGAI.

11 IN the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak', the high priest, 2) saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, "It is not the time for us to come, the time for the LORD'S house to be built. 3 °Then came the word of the LORD by 4 Haggai the prophet, saying, 'Is it la

time for you yourselves to dwell in your cieled houses, while this house 5 lieth waste? Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts: 2Consider 6 your ways. Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a 7 bag with holes. Thus saith the LORD 8 of hosts: 2Consider your ways. Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, 9 saith the LORD. Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that lieth' waste, while ye run every man to 10 his own house. Therefore for your

sake the heaven is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit. (11 And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

spake Haggai the LORD'S messenger in the LORD's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the 14 LORD. And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak', the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD 15 of hosts, their God, in the four and twentieth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

21) In the seventh month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the 2 prophet, saying, Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak', the high priest, and to the (3 remnant of the people, saying, "Who is left among you that saw this house in its former glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes as 4 nothing? Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of 'Jehozadak'. the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I am with you, saith 5 the LORD of hosts, according to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, 'and' my spirit abode among you fear ye not. 6 °For thus saith the LORD of hosts: Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; 7 and I will shake all nations, and the desirable things of all nations shall come, and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts. 8 The silver is mine, and the gold is (9) mine, saith the LORD of hosts. of Darius, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, say11 ing, Thus saith the LORD of hosts:

Ask now the priests concerning the 12 law, saying, If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it become holy? And the priests answered 13 and said, No. Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and 14 said, It shall be unclean. °Then answered Haggai and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they 15 offer there is unclean. And now,

I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the (16 LORD: through all that time, when one came to lan heap of twenty measures, there were but ten; when one came to the winefat! for to draw out fifty vessels, there were but 17 twenty. ye turned not to me, saith the LORD. 18 Consider, I pray you, from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, Isince the day that the foundation of the LORD's temple was laid, con(19 sider it. Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree hath not brought forth; from this day will I bless you.

20 And the word of the LORD came Ithe second time unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, 21 saying, Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake 22 the heavens and the earth: and I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his 23 brother. In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the LORD, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of hosts.

ZECHARIAH.

IN the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, 2 saying, "The LORD hath been sore 3 displeased with your fathers. Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts: 'Return' unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will Ireturn unto you, saith the LORD of (4 hosts. Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets cried, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Return' ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, 5 saith the LORD. man that stood among the myrtle trees answered and said, These are they whom the LORD hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth. 11 And they answered the angel of the LORD that stood among the myrtle trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and 12 is at rest. Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten 13 years? And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good 14 words, even comfortable words. So the angel that talked with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts: I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great 15 jealousy. And I am very sore displeased with the nations that are at ease: for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the afflic16 tion. Therefore thus saith the LORD:

And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, 20 and Jerusalem. And the LORD (21 shewed me four Ismiths". °Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head: but these are come to fray them, to cast down the horns of the nations', which lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it. 21 And I lifted up mine eyes, and Isaw, and behold a man with

And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him, 4 and said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as villages! without walls, by reason of the multitude 5 of men and cattle therein. °For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and 'I will (6 be the glory in the midst of her. For thus saith the LORD of hosts: "After glory hath he sent me unto the nations which spoiled you: for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye. 9 °For, behold, I will shake mine hand lover' them, and they shall be a spoil to those that served them': and ye shall know that the LORD of hosts 10 hath sent me. And many nations shall join themselves to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee. 12 And the LORD shall inherit Judah las' his portion in the holy land, and (13 shall yet choose Jerusalem. And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and 'Satan standing at his right hand to be his adversary!. 2 And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; 'yea', the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand 3 plucked out of the fire? So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments; and the 6 angel of the LORD stood by. And the angel of the LORD protested unto 7) Joshua, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts: If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou also shalt judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee a place of access among 8 these that stand by. I answered and spake to the angel that talked with me, saying, What 5 are these, my lord? Then the angel that talked with me answered and said unto me, Knowest thou not what these be? For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel, even these seven, which are the eyes of the LORD; they run to and fro through the whole earth. 11 Then answered I, and said unto him,

What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and 12 upon the left side thereof? And I answered 'the second time1, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches, which are beside the two golden 'spouts, that' empty the golden 13 oil out of themselves? And I answered, I see a flying roll; the length thereof is twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof ten 3 cubits. Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole land': for every one that stealeth shall be 'purged out! 10on the one side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be 'purged out 10on the other side ac4 cording to it.
