OFFERING A REWARD

NOVEMBER 8, 1894

From MS. Copy of Executive Journal, Vol. IX, p. 71—in the Office of the Governor, Des Moines

Whereas, I am satisfied that on or about October 31, 1885, in Stanton township in the County of Plymouth and State of Iowa, Arza Parker was feloniously murdered by some person or persons unknown to the authorities,

Now therefore, I, Frank D. Jackson, Governor of the State of Iowa, by virtue of authority in me vested by law, do hereby offer a Reward of Three Hundred Dollars for the arrest and delivery to the proper authorities of the person or persons guilty of said crime. Said reward to be paid upon conviction.

ON THANKSGIVING

NOVEMBER 9, 1894

The People of Iowa have much for which to be thankful. Therefore, I, Frank D. Jackson, Governor of the State of Iowa, in conformity with the proclamation of the President of the United States and in compliance with a time honored custom, do hereby appoint Thursday, the twentyninth day of November, 1894, as a day of public thanksgiving, and I do hereby recommend to the people of this commonwealth that they properly observe this day by refraining from the pursuits of their secular callings, and

that they unite in thanksgiving and praise to Almighty God for his infinite goodness and mercy, and most earnestly beseech a continuance of divine providence during the coming year.

Let us remember the poor and needy by ministering to their wants and bringing joy to their hearts.

Whereas, I am satisfied that on or about September 29th, 1894, near the town of Hamburg in the County of Fremont and State of Iowa, one M. L. Donnelly was feloniously murdered by one L. H. Davidson, and

Whereas, the said L. H. Davidson has so far managed to evade arrest for said crime and is now a fugitive from justice,

Now, Therefore, I, Frank D. Jackson, Governor of the State of Iowa by virtue of authority vested in me by law, do hereby offer a reward of Three Hundred Dollars for the arrest and delivery to the proper authorities of the said L. H. Davidson, said reward to be paid upon his conviction. In Testimony Whereof, I have hereunto set

Whereas, the said Albert Bowen has so far managed to evade arrest for said crime and is now a fugitive from justice;
