India Rubber Car Springs.

OFFICE, 61 CHAMBERS STREET,

[blocks in formation]
[graphic][subsumed][subsumed]

THIS BRIDGE Combines the principles of both Arch and Truss in so perfect a manner as to render their united strength available at the same time, or the Arch system may be held in reserve, to be brought into action only in case of accident to the Truss. The STRENGTH of the Truss alone is not inferior to that of any other in use; while the Arch arrangement comes in to double its safety, and preserve it at a time when any other Bridge would fail.

Another distinguishing feature of this plan of Bridge is its perfect RIGIDITY under loads passing at great speed. This important property-rendering it safer on stone, brick or wooden piers or abutments, than any other form of Bridge in use-is the result of its peculiar counter-brace arrangement.

While this Bridge is thus stronger and more rigid or inflexible, it at the same time requires less adjustment, and can be built of longer spans than any other plan of Trussed Bridge.

REFERENCE

is made to the Officers of Railroads where this Bridge is now in use, or being constructed, to wit:
