On motion, The senate proceeded to elect by ballot, a committee on credentials, which resulted in the election of Messrs. Dawes, Colby and Brown. Whereupon the committee on credentials retired, and subsequently appeared and submitted the following report: Mr. Secretary: Your committee on credentials report that they have examined the credentials presented, and find the following named persons to have been duly elected senators, and entitled to seats in this body, viz : 66 -C. H. Brown. Thirteenth District-G. H. Thummel. Fourteenth District-J. E. North. Fifteenth District-H. Garfield. Sixteenth District-A. M. Bryant. Seventeenth District-Thomas P. Kennard. On motion, The report of the committee on credentials was adopted, and the committee discharged. On motion of Mr. Ferguson, The secretary pro tem. appointed Messrs. Ferguson and Powers, a committee to wait upon the secretary of state, and request him to appear in the senate chamber, and administer the oath of office to the senators elect. Thereupon the committee retired, And subsequently appeared escorting the secretary of state, who administered the following oath of office to the senators elect, who subscribed to the same, viz: "I do solemnly swear that I will support the constitution of the United States, and the constitution of the State of Nebraska, and will faithfully perform the duties of senator, according to the best of my ability, and that at the election at which I was chosen to fill said office, I have not improperly influenced in any way, the vote of any elector, and have not accepted, nor will I accept or receive, directly or indirectly, any money or other valuable thing from any corporation, company or person, or any promise of office for any official act or influence, (for any vote I may give or withhold on any bill, resolution, or appropriation.) Mr. Ambrose nominated Mr. Howe. Those voting for Mr. Blanchard were: Messrs. Aten, Baird, Bryant, Calkins, Carns, Chapman, Colby, Dawes, Garfield, Gilham, Hayes, Kennard, Knapp, Pepoon, Powers, Thummel, Van Wyck, Walton, Wilcox--19. Those voting for Mr. Howe were: Messrs. Ambrose, Brown, Birkhauser, Covell, Crawford, Ferguson, Hinman and North--9. Those not voting were: Messrs. Blanchard and Howe--2. Mr. Blanchard having received the votes of a majority of the senators elect, was declared duly elected temporary president of the senate. Mr. Carns moved That a committee of two be appointed to wait upon the temporary president elect and escort him to the chair. Which was agreed to. Messrs. Carns and Brown was appointed as such committee, and performed that duty. Whereupon Mr. Blanchard assumed the chair as temporary president of the senate. Mr. Kennard moved That the senate proceed to the election of apermanent secretary. Mr. Ambrose placed in nomination the name of Daniel H. Wheeler, of Cass county. Those voting for Mr. Wheeler were: Messrs. Ambrose, Aten, Baird, Blanchard, Bryant, Birkhauser, Calkins, Carns, Chapman, Colby, Crawford, Dawes, Garfield, Gilham, Hayes, Holt, Howe, Kennard, Knapp, North, Pepoon, Powers, Thummel, Van Wyck, Walton and Wilcox--26. The following senators voted for Mr. Crawford: Messrs. Brown, Ferguson, Covell and Hinman. Mr. Wheeler having received the votes of a majority of the senators elect, was declared duly elected secretary of the senate. Mr. Crawford moved That the senate proceed to the election of an assistant secretary of the senate. Which was agreed to. Mr. Wilcox placed in nomination the name of E. J. Baldwin, of Seward county. Those voting for Mr. Baldwin were: Messrs. Aten, Baird, Bryant, Calkins, Carns, Chapman, Colby, Dawes, Garfield, Gilham, Hayes, Hinman, Holt, Howe, Kennard, Knapp, Pepoon, Powers, Thummel, Van Wyck, Walton and Wil cox--21. Those voting for Mr. Mather were: Messrs. Ambrose, Birkhauser, Covell and Holt-4. Those voting for Mr. Curran were: Messrs. Brown, Crawford, Ferguson and North-4. Mr. Blanchard-1. Mr. Baldwin having received the votes of a majority of the senators elect, was declared duly elected assistant secretary of the senate. Mr. Holt moved That the senate take a recess until 2 o'clock P. M. Mr. Chapman moved, As an amendment, that the senate adjourn until to-morrow morningat 9 o'clock. Mr. Pepoon moved, As an amendment, that the senate take a recess unti 3 o'clock P. M. Which amendment was agreed to, and the senate took a recess until 3 o'clock this P. M. AFTER RECESS. 3 o'clock P. M. The senate was called to order by the temporary president. Mr. Crawford moved That the senate proceed to complete its organization by the election of permanent officers. A division being called for, The motion was agreed to, by yeas 18, nays 9. Mr. Ambrose moved, That the senate proceed to the election of a second assistant secretary of the senate. Which was agreed to. Mr. Van Wyck placed in nomination the name of W. M.
