Mr. Crawford, by unanimous consent, offered the following resolution and moved

That the rules be suspended and the resolution adopted : WHEREAS, It appears from the treasurer's books that the delinquent state taxes amount to the sum of $740,205.06; and

be

WHEREAS, The per centage of delinquent tax in many counties of this state is much greater than in others; therefore be it Resolved, That the committee on finance, ways and means, directed to enquire and report to the senate the cause for the failure to collect said taxes, and why the percentage of delinquent taxes in many counties so far exceeds that in other counties, and what legislation, if any, is necessary to insure the collection of said

taxes.

Two-thirds of the members voting therefor, the rules were suspended and the resolution adopted.

Mr. Ambrose, by unanimous consent, offered the following resolution, and moved that the rules be suspended and the resolution adopted:

Resolved, That the committee on constitutional amendments be and they are hereby directed to enquire into the necessity of amending section 11 of article III of the constitution, in relation to printing, and to report by bill or otherwise.

Two-thirds of the senators voting in the affirmative,

The rules were suspended, and the resolution was adopted. Mr. Ambrose, by unanimous consent, introduced a resolution relating to the conduct of the office of attorney-general, which was laid over under the rules.

A joint resolution requesting the senators and representatives from Nebraska in the congress of the United States to secure, if possible, such legislation as will appropriate the proceeds of the public lands in the several states afflicted with grasshoppers to those states, to be used in the payment of bounties for the destruction of such grasshoppers.
