EXECUTIVE SESSIONS

FIFTY-THIRD SENATE.

TRENTON, January 18th, 1897.

At 8:15 P. M. the Senate met in Executive Session.

Under the direction of the President, the Secretary called the Senate, when the following Senators appeared and answered the call: Messrs. Barber, Daly, Engle, Francis, Gould, Herbert, Hoffman, Johnson H. W., Johnson W. M., Ketcham, Miller, Parry, Reed, Ross, Skirm, Star ger, Stokes, Voorhees, Vreeland, Williams (President)-20.

The President laid before the Senate a sealed communication from the Governor, indorsed "Nominations."

On motion of Mr. Voorhees, the seals of the communication were broken by the President, and the Secretary read as follows:

Hon. Robert Williams, President of the Senate:

SIR-I hereby nominate for appointment, with the advice and consent of the Senate, as follows:

For Supervisor of the State Prison

Edward J. Anderson (re-appointed).

For members of the State Board of Assessors

Bird W. Spencer (re-appointed),

Amos Gibbs, of Burlington county (vice David Baird, resigned).

For President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Essex county

John Franklin Fort (vice Andrew Kirkpatrick, resigned). For Prosecutor of the Pleas of Monmouth county

Wilbur A. Heisley (vice Charles H. Ivins, whose term has expired).

For President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Sussex county

Henry Huston (vice James L. Conklin, deceased).

For Judge of the Second District Court of Jersey City—
James S. Erwin (vice Roderick B. Seymour, deceased).

For Commissioner of Fisheries

John L. Smith, of Essex county, vice W. Campbell Clark, resigned.

For Trustees of the Reform School for Boys

Nathaniel S. Rue (re-appointed),

Horace L. Dunham (re-appointed).

For Trustees of the State Industrial School for Girls

Aaron Carter (re-appointed),

George C. Maddock (re appointed),

Edward H. Stokes (re-appointed),
Patrick J. Fitzgibbon (re appointed).

The nominations were, under the rules, referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.

On motion of Mr. Voorhees, the Executive Session then arose.

At 12:15 P. M. the Senate met in Executive Session.

Under the direction of the President, the Secretary called the Senate, when the following Senators appeared and answered the call: Messrs. Barber, Daly, Engle, Francis, Gould, Hoffman, Johnson H.

W., Johnson W. M., Ketcham, Kuhl, Miller, Parry, Reed, Ross, Skirm, Stanger, Stokes, Voorhees, Vreeland, Williams (President)-20.

Mr. Voorhees, Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary, to whom were referred the nominations made by the Governor in his communication of January eighteenth, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven, for

Supervisor of the State Prison

For Members of State Board of Assessors

Bird W. Spencer,

Amos Gibbs;

For President Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Essex county, John Franklin Fort;

Mr. Skirm moved that the rules be suspended and said nominations be now considered,

Which was agreed to.

Mr. Voorhees moved that the nomination of Edward J. Anderson, for Supervisor of the State Prison, be now considered,

Which was agreed to.

Upon the question, "Will the Senate advise and consent to the said nomination ?" the ayes and nays were taken, with the following result:

In the affirmative wereMessrs. Barber, Daly, Engle, Francis, Gould, Herbert, Hoffman, Johnson H. W., Johnson W. M., Ketcham, Kuhl, Miller,

Parry, Reed, Ross, Skirm, Stanger, Stokes, Voorhees, Vreeland, Williams (President)—21.

In the negative-None.

So the said nomination was declared unanimously confirmed. 41 Sen Jour

Mr. Voorhees moved that the nomination of Bird W. Spencer and Amos Gibbs for members of the State Board of Assessors, be now considered,

Which was agreed to.

Upon the question, "Will the Senate advise and consent to the said nominations?" the ayes and nays were taken, with the following result:

In the affirmative were

Messrs. Barber, Daly, Engle, Francis, Gould, Herbert, Hoffman, Johnson H. W., Johnson W. M., Ketcham, Kuhl, Miller, Parry, Reed, Ross, Skirm, Stanger, Stokes, Voorhees, Vreeland, Williams (President)—21.

Mr. Voorhees moved that the nomination of Wilbur A. Heisley for Prosecutor of the Pleas of Monmouth county be now considered, Which was agreed to.

Upon the question, "Will the Senate advise and consent to the said nomination?" the ayes and nays were taken, with the following result:
