Resolved, That a committee of nine members be appointed to revise, amend, and report rules for the government of this House; and that, until such committee make report, and the same be finally acted upon, the rules and orders of the last House of Representatives, except the 21st, shall be considered as the rules and orders of this House.

Mr. William B. Calhoun, Lewis Williams, Richard W. Habersham, George W. Hopkins, A. Lawrence Foster, Thomas J. Campbell, Joseph Lawrence, James W. Williams, and Linn Banks, were appointed the committee under the said resolution.

The House proceeded to the consideration of the resolution moved on the 3d instant, calling on the Secretary of the Treasury for the plan of the fiscal agent recommended in his report on the state of the finances; and the said resolution, having been again read, was ordered to lie on the table. On motion of Mr. Briggs,

The House proceeded to the consideration of the resolution submitted by Mr. Briggs on the 3d instant, to direct that the standing committees be now appointed.

A motion was made by Mr. Sergeant to amend the resolution by adding thereto the following:

And that a select committee of nine members be appointed upon the subject of the currency, and the establishment of a suitable fiscal agent capable of adding increased facilities in the collection and disbursement of the public revenues, and rendering their custody more secure.

Mr. Briggs accepted this amendment, and modified his resolution accordingly.

The previous question was moved by Mr. Stanly, and was demanded by a majority of the members present.

The question on the resolution was then divided.

And the first member thereof was, on the question put thereon, agreed to. And the question was put that the House do agree to the second member of the said resolution, being that part moved by Mr. Sergeant, and adopted by Mr. Briggs,
