TO THE

HON. AND RIGHT REV. HENRY MONTAGU,

LORD BISHOP OF CARLISLE.

MY LORD,

I have a double debt to discharge; first, to thank you for the kind permission to dedicate this volume to your Lordship; and which enables me to discharge also my second debt in the way most acceptable to my own feelings, in thus expressing my grateful sense of the valuable commendation your Lordship has given to the preceding volumes of MANNA IN THE HOUSE.

I have the honour to remain,

MY LORD,

Your obedient and obliged servant,

BARTON BOUCHIER.

CHEAM, SURREY,

March, 1858.

The uncertainty of his then position, and the possibility, perhaps the hope, of removal to another sphere of labour were little favourable
