It has become customary for New York City to select one day in the spring for a general house-cleaning. With the co-operation of the Street Cleaning Department, Board of Health, and the school-children, the back yards and cellars are thoroughly cleaned, and the rubbish carted away in hired carts, in addition to the Street Cleaning Department's vehicles. There were many such scenes as the above on May 19 LOOKING EASTWARD FROM PISGAH RIDGE IN THE PISGAH FOREST The Pisgah Forest lies on the slope of the Pisgah Range in North Carolina. It is over 86,000 acres in extent and belongs to the estate of the late George W. Vanderbilt. Mrs. Vanderbilt has offered to sell it to the United States to become part of the National Forest Reserve.
