LA SECONDA EPISTOLA CATTOLICA DI S. PIETRO, APOSTOLO. CAPO 1. IMON Pietro, servitore, ed apo che hanno ottenuta fede di pari prezzo che noi, nella giustizia del Î' Iddio, e Salvator nostro, Gesù Cristo ; 2 Grazia, e pace vi sia moltiplicata nella conoscenza di Dio, e di Gesù, nostro Signore. 3 Siccome la sua potenza divina ci ha donate tutte le cose, che appartengono alla vita, e alla pietà, per la conoscenza di colui che ci ha chiamati per gloria, e per virtù ; 4 Per le quali ci son donate le preziose, e grandissime promesse; acciocchè per esse voi siate fatti partecipi della natura divina, essendo fuggiti dalla corruzione in concupiscenza, ch' è nel mondo; 5 Voi ancora simigliantemente, recando a questo stesso ogni studio, sopraggiugnete alla fede vostra la virtù, e alla virtù la conoscenza. 6 E alla conoscenza la continenza, e alla continenza la sofferenza, e alla sofferenza la pietà, 7 E alla pietà l'amor fraterno, e all' amor fraterno la carità. 8 Perciocchè, se queste cose sono, e abbondano in voi, non vi renderanno oziosi, nè sterili nella conoscenza del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo. 9 Conciossiachè colui appo chi queste cose non sono, sia cieco, ammiccando con gli occhi, avendo dimenticato il purgamento de' suoi vecchi peccati. THE SECOND EPISTLE GENERAL OF PETER. CHAPTER 1. NIMON Peter, a servant and an to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: 2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, 3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue : 4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises; that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 5 And besides this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue, knowledge; 6 And to knowledge, temperance; and to temperance, patience; and to patience, godliness; 7 And to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 10 Perciò fratelli, vie più studiatevi di render ferma la vostra vocazione, ed elezione; perciocchè, facendo queste cose, non v' intopperete giammai; 11 Imperocchè così vi sarà copiosamente porta l'entrata all' eterno regno del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo. 12 Perciò io non trascurerò di 10 Wherefore the rather, breth ren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 12 Wherefore I will not be neg rammemorarvi del continuo que-ligent to put you always in re ste cose; benchè siate già intendenti, e confermati nella presente verità. 13 Or io stimo esser cosa ragionevole, che, mentre io sono in questo tabernacolo, io vi risvegli per ricordo ; 14 Sapendo che fra poco il mio tabernacolo ha da essere posto giù; siccome ancora il Signor nostro Gesù Cristo me l'ha dichiarato. 15 Ma io mi studierò che ancora, dopo la mia partita, abbiate il modo di rammemorarvi frequentemente queste cose. 16 Conciossiachè non vi abbiamo data a conoscer la potenza, e l' avvenimento del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo, andando dietro a favole artificiosamente composte; ma essendo stati spettatori della maestà d'esso. 17 Perciocchè egli ricevette da Dio Padre onore, e gloria, essendogli recata una cotal voce dalla magnifica gloria : Questi è il mio diletto Figliuolo, nel quale io ho preso il mio compiacimento. 18 E noi udimmo questa voce recata dal cielo, essendo con lui nel monte santo. 19 Noi abbiamo ancora la parola profetica più ferma, alla quale fate bene di attendere, come ad una lampana rilucente in un luogo scuro, finchè schiarisca il giorno, e che la stella mattutina sorga ne' cuori vostri ; 20 Sapendo questo imprima, che alcuna profezia della scrittura non è di particolare interpretazione. 21 Perciocchè la profezia non fu già recata per volontà umana: ma membrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. 13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; 14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. 15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance. 16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. 19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the daystar arise in your hearts: 20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but i santi uomini di Dio hanno par- holy men of God spake as they lato, essendo sospinti dallo Spirito were moved by the Holy Ghost. CHAPTER 2. there were false prophets R vi furono ancora de' falsi B among the people, even profeti fra il popolo, come altresì vi saranno fra voi de' falsi dottori, i quali sottintrodurranno eresie di perdizione, e rinnegheranno il Signore che gli ha comperati, traendosi addosso subita perdizione. 2 E molti seguiteranno le lor la scivie; per li quali la via della verità sarà bestemmiata. 3 E per avarizia faranno mercatanzia di voi con parole finte; sopra i quali già da lungo tempo il giudicio non tarda, e la perdizion loro non dorme. 4 Perciocchè, se Iddio non ha risparmiati gli angeli che hanno peccato; anzi, avendoli abissati, gli ha messi in catene di caligine, per esser guardati al giudicio; 5 E non risparmiò il mondo antico; ma salvò Noè, predicator di giustizia, sol con otto persone, avendo addotto il diluvio sopra il mondo degli empi; as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judg ment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not. 4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; 5 And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, 6 E condannò a sovversione le città di Sodoma, e di Gomorra, avendole ridotte in cenere, e poste per esempio a coloro che per l' av-making them an ensample unto venire viverebbero empiamente; 7 E scampò il giusto Lot, travagliato per la lussuriosa conversazion degli scellerati; 8 (Conciossiachè quel giusto, abitando fra loro, perciò ch' egli vedeva, ed udiva, tormentava ogni dì l' anima sua giusta per le scellerate loro opere ;) 9 Il Signore sa trarre di tentazione i pii, e riserbar gli empi ad esser puniti nel giorno del giudicio; 10 Massimamente coloro che vanno dietro alla carne, in concupiscenza d' immondizia; e che sprezzano le signorie: che sono audaci, those that after should live ungodly; 7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked: 8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds :) 9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: 10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they di lor senno, e non hanno orrore di dir male delle dignità. 11 Là dove gli angeli, benchè sieno maggiori di forza, e di potenza, non danno contro ad esse appo il Signore giudicio di maldicenza. 12 Ma costoro, come animali senza ragione, andando dietro all' impeto della natura, nati ad esser presi, ed a perire bestemmiando nelle cose che ignorano, periranno del tutto nella lor corruzione, ricevendo il pagamento dell' iniquità; 13 Essi, che reputano tutto il lor piacere consistere nelle delizie alla giornata; che son macchie, e vituperii, godendo de' loro inganni, mentre mangiano con voi ne' vostri conviti; 14 Avendo gli occhi pieni d'adulterio, e che non restano giammai di peccare; adescando l'anime instabili; avendo il cuore esercitato ad avarizia, figliuoli di maledizione; 15 I quali, lasciata la diritta strada, si sono sviati, seguitando la via di Balaam, figliuolo di Bosor, il quale amò il salario d' iniquità. 16 Ma egli ebbe la riprensione della sua prevaricazione; un' asina mutola, avendo parlato in voce umana, riprese la follia del profeta. 17 Questi son fonti senz' acqua, nuvole sospinte dal turbo, a' quali è riserbata la caligine delle tenebre. 18 Perciocchè, parlando cose vane sopra modo gonfie, adescano per concupiscenze della carne, e per lascivie, coloro che erano un poco fuggiti da quelli che con versano in errore; 19 Promettendo loro libertà, là dove eglino stessi son servi della corruzione; conciossiachè ancora, se altri è vinto da alcuno, divenga suo servo. 20 Perciocchè, quelli che son fuggiti dalle contaminazioni del mondo, per la conoscenza del Signore e Salvator Gesù Cristo, se, di nuovo essendo in quelle avviluppati, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. 11 Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. 12 But these, as natural brute beasts made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption; 13 And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the daytime. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; 14 Having eyes full of adultery, and that cannot cease from sin; beguiling unstable souls: a heart they have exercised with covetous practices; cursed children: 15 Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; : 16 But was rebuked for his iniquity the dumb ass speaking with man's voice forbade the madness of the prophet. 17 These are wells without water, clouds that are carried with a tempest; to whom the mist of darkness is reserved for ever. 18 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. 19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. 20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and over sono vinti, l' ultima condizione è come, the latter end is worse with loro peggiore della primiera. 21 Imperocchè meglio era per loro non aver conosciuta la via della giustizia, che dopo averla conosciuta rivolgersi indietro dal santo comandamento che era loro stato dato. 22 Ma egli è avvenuto loro ciò che si dice per vero proverbio: Il cane è tornato al suo vomito, e la porca lavata è tornata a voltarsi nel fango. CAPO 3. la them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and, The sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire. CHAPTER 3. HIS epistle, beloved, DILETTI, questa è già vis eri- Towsone unto you, in both vo; nell' una e nell' altra delle quali io desto con ricordo la vostra sincera mente; 2 Acciocchè vi ricordiate delle parole dette innanzi da' santi profeti, e del comandamento di noi apostoli, che è del Signore, e Salvatore istesso; 3 Sapendo questo imprima, che negli ultimi giorni verranno degli schernitori, che cammineranno secondo le lor proprie concupi scenze, 4 E diranno: Dov'è la promessa del suo avvenimento? conciossiachè, da che i padri si sono addormentati, tutte le cose perseverino in un medesimo stato fin dal principio della creazione. 5 Perciocchè essi ignorano questo volontariamente, che per la parola di Dio, ab antico, i cieli furono fatti; e la terra ancora, consistente fuor dell' acqua, e per mezzo l'acqua. 6 Per le quali cose il mondo di allora, diluviato per l' acqua, perì. 7 Ma i cieli e la terra del tempo presente, per la medesima parola son riposti; essendo riserbati al fuoco, nel giorno del giudicio, e della perdizione degli uomini empi. 8 Or quest' unica cosa non vi sia celata, diletti, che appo il Signore un giorno è come mille anni, e mille anni come un giorno. 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. |
