10 Affinchè discerniate le cose contrarie; acciocchè siate sinceri, e senza intoppo, per lo giorno di Cristo;

11 Ripieni di frutti di giustizia, che son per Gesù Cristo; alla gloria, e lode di Dio.

12 Ora, fratelli, io voglio che sappiate che i fatti miei son riusciti a maggiore avanzamento dell' evangelo;

13 Talchè i miei legami son divenuti palesi in Cristo, in tutto il pretorio, e a tutti gli altri;

14 E molti de' fratelli nel Signore, rassicurati per li miei legami, hanno preso vie maggiore ardire di proporre la parola di Dio senza

paura.

15 Vero è, che ve ne sono alcuni che predicano anche Cristo per invidia, e per contenzione, ma pure ancora altri, che lo predicano per buona affezione.

16 Quelli certo annunziano Cristo per contenzione, non puramente; pensando aggiugnere afflizione a' miei legami;

17 Ma questi lo fanno per carità, sapendo che io son posto per la difesa dell' evangelo.

18 Ma che? pure è ad ogni modo, o per pretesto, o in verità, Cristo annunziato; e di questo mi rallegro, anzi ancora me ne rallegrerò per l'avvenire.

19 Conciossiachè io sappia che ciò mi riuscirà a salute, per la vostra orazione, e per la somministrazion dello Spirito di Gesù Cristo ;

20 Secondo l'intento e la speranza mia, che io non sarò svergognato in cosa alcuna; ma che, con ogni franchezza, come sempre, così ancora al presente, Cristo sarà magnificato nel mio corpo, o per vita, o per morte.

21 Perciocchè a me il vivere è Cristo, e il morire guadagno.

22 Or io non so se il vivere in carne mi è vantaggio, nè ciò che io debbo eleggere;

10 That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ;

11 Being filled with the fruits of | righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

12-But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel;

13 So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places;

14 And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will:

16 The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds:

17 But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel.

18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.

19 For I know that this shall turn to my salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,

20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.

22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour yet what I shall choose I wot not. 489

24 Ma il rimanere nella carne è più necessario per voi.

25 E questo so io sicuramente, che io rimarrò, e dimorerò appresso di voi tutti, all' avanzamento vostro, e all' allegrezza della vostra fede;

26 Acciocchè il vostro vanto abbondi in Cristo Gesù, per me, per la mia presenza di nuovo appo voi.

27 Sol conversate condegnamente all' evangelo di Cristo; acciocchè, o ch' io venga, e vi vegga; o che io sia assente, io oda de' fatti vostri, che voi state fermi in uno Spirito, combattendo insieme d' un medesimo animo per la fede dell' evangelo;

28 E non essendo in cosa alcuna spaventati dagli avversari; il che a loro è una dimostrazione di perdizione, ma a voi di salute; e ciò da Dio.

29 Conciossiachè a voi sia stato di grazia dato per Cristo, non sol di credere in lui, ma ancora di patir per lui;

30 Avendo l' istesso combattimento, il quale avete veduto in me, ed ora udite essere in me.

E dunque vi è alcuna consolazione in Cristo, se alcun conforto di carità, se alcuna comunion di Spirito, se alcune viscere, e misericordie;

2 Rendete compiuta la mia allegrezza, avendo un medesimo sentimento, e una medesima carità; essendo d' un animo, sentendo una stessa cosa;

3 Non facendo nulla per contenzione, o vanagloria; ma per umiltà, ciascun di voi pregiando altrui più che sè stesso.

4 Non riguardate ciascuno al

24 Nevertheless to abide in the flesh is more needful for you.

25 And having this confidence, I know that I shall abide and continue with you all for your furtherance and joy of faith;

26 That your rejoicing may be more abundant in Jesus Christ for me by my coming to you again.

27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

28 And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.

29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;

30 Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

CHAPTER 2.

F there be therefore any conso

Father in Christ, if any comfort

of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,

2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

5 Perciocchè conviene che in voi sia il medesimo sentimento, il quale ancora è stato in Cristo Gesù;

6 Il quale, essendo in forma di Dio, non riputò rapina l' essere uguale a Dio;

7 E pure annichilò sè stesso, presa forma di servo, fatto alla somiglianza degli uomini ;

8 E, trovato nell' esteriore simile ad un uomo, abbassò sè stesso, essendosi fatto ubbidiente infino alla morte, e la morte della croce.

9 Per la qual cosa ancora Iddio l' ha sovranamente innalzato, e gli ha donato un nome, che è sopra ogni nome;

10 Acciocchè nel nome di Gesù si pieghi ogni ginocchio delle creature celesti, e terrestri, e sotterranee;

11 E che ogni lingua confessi che Gesù Cristo è il Signore; alla gloria di Dio Padre.

12 Perciò, cari miei, come sempre mi avete ubbidito, non sol come nella mia presenza, ma ancora molto più al presente nella mia assenza, compiete la vostra salute con timore, e tremore.

13 Conciossiachè Iddio sia quel che opera in voi il volere, e l' operare, per lo suo beneplacito. 14 Fate ogni cosa morii, e quistioni;

senza mor

15 Acciocchè siate irreprensibili, e sinceri, figliuoli di Dio senza biasimo, in mezzo della perversa, e storta generazione, fra la quale risplendete come luminari nel mondo, portando innanzi a quella la parola della vita;

16 Acciocchè io abbia di che gloriarmi nel giorno di Cristo ch' io non son corso in vano, nè in vano ho faticato.

17 E, se pure anche sono, a guisa d'offerta da spandere, sparso sopra l'ostia, e il sacrificio della fede vostra, io ne gioisco, e ne congioisco con tutti voi.

18 Gioitene parimente voi, e congioitene meco.

19 Or io spero nel Signore Gesù

5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling:

13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

17 Yea, and if I be offered upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I joy, and rejoice with you all.

18 For the same cause also do ye joy, and rejoice with me. 19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus

di mandarvi tosto Timoteo, acciocchè io ancora, avendo saputo lo stato vostro, sia innanimato;

20 Perciocchè io non ho alcuno di

animo pari a lui, quale sinceramente abbia cura de' fatti vostri. 21 Conciossiachè tutti cerchino il lor proprio, non ciò che è di Cristo Gesù.

22 Ma voi conoscete la prova d'esso; come egli ha servito meco nell' evangelo, nella maniera che un figliuolo serve al padre.

23 Io spero adunque mandarlo, subito che avrò veduto come andranno i fatti miei.

24 Or io ho fidanza nel Signore ch' io ancora tosto verrò.

25 Ma ho stimato necessario di mandarvi Epafrodito, mio fratello, e compagno d' opera, e di milizia, e vostro apostolo, e ministro de' miei bisogni ;

26 Perciocchè egli desiderava molto vedervi tutti; ed era angosciato per ciò che avevate udito ch' egli era stato infermo.

27 Perciocchè certo egli è stato infermo, ben viein della morte; ma Iddio ha avuta pietà di lui; e non solo di lui, ma di me ancora, acciocchè io non avessi tristizia sopra tristizia.

28 Perciò vie più diligentemente l'ho mandato, acciocchè, veggendolo, voi vi rallegriate di nuovo, e ch' io stesso sia men contristato. 29 Accoglietelo adunque nel Signore con ogni allegrezza, e abbiate tali in istima.

30 Perciocchè egli è stato ben presso della morte per l'opera di Cristo, avendo esposta a rischio la propria vita, per supplire il difetto del vostro servigio inverso me.

to send Timotheus shortly unto you, that I also may be of good comfort, when I know your state. 20 For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.

21 For all seek their own, not the things which are Jesus Christ's.

22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.

23 Him therefore I hope to send presently, so soon as I shall see how it will go with me.

24 But I trust in the Lord that I also myself shall come shortly. 25 Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellow soldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.

26 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick.

27 For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him ; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

28 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful.

29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation :

30 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.

CHAPTER 3.

INALLY, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe.

2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.

3 Conciossiachè siamo la circoncisione, noi, che serviamo in Ispirito a Dio, e ci gloriamo in Cristo Gesù, e non ci confidiamo nella

carne.

4 Benchè eziandio nella carne io avrei di che confidarmi; se alcun altro si pensa aver di che confidarsi nella carne, io l'ho molto più;

5 Io, che sono stato circonciso l' ottavo giorno, che sono della nazion d' Israele, della tribù di Beniamino, Ebreo di Ebrei; quant'è alla legge, Fariseo;

6 Quant'è allo zelo, essendo stato persecutor della chiesa; quant'è alla giustizia, che è nella legge, essendo stato irreprensibile.

7 Ma le cose che mi eran guadagni, quelle ho reputate danno, per Cristo.

8 Anzi pure ancora reputo tutte queste cose esser danno, per l' eccellenza della conoscenza di Cristo Gesù, mio Signore, per lo quale io ho fatta perdita di tutte queste cose, e le reputo tanti sterchi, acciocchè io guadagni Cristo;

9 E sia trovato in lui, non già avendo la mia giustizia, che è dal la legge; ma quella che è per la fede di Cristo; la giustizia che è da Dio, mediante la fede;

10 Per conoscere esso Cristo, e la virtù della sua risurrezione, e la comunione delle sue sofferenze, essendo renduto conforme alla sua morte;

11 Per provare se una volta perverrò alla risurrezione de' morti.

12 Non già ch' io abbia ottenuto il premio, o che già sia pervenuto alla perfezione; anzi proseguo, per procacciar d' ottenere il premio; per la qual cagione ancora sono stato preso da Gesù Cristo. 13 Fratelli, io non reputo d' avere ancora ottenuto il premio;

14 Ma una cosa fo, dimenticando

3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:

5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, રી Pharisee;

6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for
