CHAPTER 2.

ND you hath he quickened, who

che eravate ne' falli, e

ne' peccati;

2 Ne' quali già camminaste, seguendo il secolo di questo mondo, secondo il principe della podestà dell' aria, dello spirito che opera al presente ne' figliuoli della disubbidienza;

3 Fra i quali ancora noi tutti conversammo già nelle concupiscenze della nostra carne, adempiendo le voglie della carne, e de' pensieri; ed era vam di natura figliuoli d'ira, come ancora gli altri.

4 Ma Iddio, che è ricco in misericordia, per la sua molta carità, della quale ci ha amati;

5 Eziandio mentre eravamo morti ne' falli, ci ha vivificati con Cristo (voi siete salvati per grazia); 6 E ci ha risuscitati con lui, e con lui ci ha fatti sedere nè luoghi celesti, in Cristo Gesù;

7 Acciocchè mostrasse ne' secoli avvenire l'eccellenti ricchezze della sua grazia, in benignità inverso noi, in Cristo Gesù.

8 Perciocchè voi siete salvati per la grazia, mediante la fede, e ciò non è da voi, è il dono di Dio;

9 Non per opere, acciocchè niuno si glorii.

10 Conciossiachè noi siamo la fattura d' esso, essendo creati in Cristo Gesù a buone opere, le quali Iddio ha preparate, acciocchè camminiamo in esse.

11 Perciò, ricordatevi che già voi Gentili nella carne, che siete chiamati Incirconcisione da quella che è chiamata Circoncisione nella carne, fatta con la mano;

12 In quel tempo eravate senza Cristo, alieni dalla repubblica d' Israele, e stranieri de' patti della promessa, non avendo speranza, ed essendo senza Dio nel mondo;

13 Ma ora, in Cristo Gesù, voi, che già eravate lontani, siete stati approssimati per lo sangue di Cristo.

2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience :

3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved ;)

6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace, in his kindness toward us, through Christ Jesus.

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands;

12 That at that time ve were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

13 But now, in Christ Jesus, ye who sometime were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

14 Perciocchè egli è la nostra pace, il quale ha fatto de' due uno; e, avendo disfatta la parete di mezzo che facea la chiusura ; 15 Ha nella sua carne annullata l' inimicizia, la legge de' comandamenti, posta in ordinamenti; acciocchè creasse in sè stesso i due in un uomo nuovo, facendo la pace; 16 E li riconciliasse amendue in un corpo a Dio, per la croce, avendo uccisa l' inimicizia in sè

stesso.

17 Ed essendo venuto, ha evangelizzata pace a voi che eravate lontani, e a quelli che eran vicini. 18 Perciocchè per esso abbiamo gli uni e gli altri introduzione al Padre, in uno Spirito.

19 Voi dunque non siete più forestieri, nè avveniticci; ma concittadini de' santi, e domestici di Dio.

20 Essendo edificati sopra il fondamento degli apostoli e de' profeti, essendo Gesù Cristo stesso la pietra del capo del cantone;

21 In cui tutto l'edificio ben composto cresce in tempio santo nel Signore.

22 Nel quale ancor voi siete insieme edificati, per essere un tabernacolo di Dio, in Ispirito.

14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby :

17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto a holy temple in the Lord:

22 In whom ye also are builded together for a habitation of God through the Spirit.

CHAPTER 3.

NOR this cause I Paul, the pris

2 (Se pure avete udita la dispensazion della grazia di Dio, che mi è stata data inverso voi ;)

3 Come per rivelazione egli mi ha fatto conoscere il misterio; siccome avanti in breve scrissi ; 4 A che potete, leggendo, conoscere qual sia la mia intelligenza nel misterio di Cristo;

5 Il quale non fu dato a conoscere nell' altre età a' figliuoli degli uomini, come ora è stato rivelato a' santi apostoli, e profeti d' esso, in Ispirito;

6 Acciocchè i Gentili sieno coeredi, e d' un medesimo corpo, e partecipi della promessa d'esso in Cristo, per l'evangelo;

Gentiles,

2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words;

4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ,)

5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

6 That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:

7 Del quale io sono stato fatto ministro, secondo il dono della grazia di Dio, che mi è stata data, secondo la virtù della sua potenza. 8 A me, dico, il minimo di tutti i santi, è stata data questa grazia d'evangelizzar fra i Gentili le non investigabili ricchezze di Cristo;

9 E di manifestare a tutti, quale è la dispensazion del misterio, il -quale da' secoli è stato occulto in Dio, che ha create tutte le cose per Gesù Cristo ;

10 Acciocchè nel tempo presente sia data a conoscere a' principati, e alle podestà, ne' luoghi celesti, per la chiesa, la molto varia sa pienza di Dio;

11 Secondo il proponimento eterno, il quale egli ha fatto in Cristo Gesù, nostro Signore ;

12 In cui noi abbiamo la libertà, e l'introduzione in confidanza, per la fede d'esso.

13 Per la qual cosa io richieggio che non veniate meno dell' animo per le mie tribolazioni, che soffero per voi; il che è la vostra gloria. 14 Per questa cagione, dico, io piego le mie ginocchia al Padre del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo;

15 Dal quale è nominata tutta la famiglia, ne' cieli, e sopra la terra; 16 Ch' egli vi dia, secondo le ricchezze della sua gloria, d' esser fortificati in virtù, per lo suo Spirito, nell' uomo interno;

17 E che Cristo abiti ne' vostri cuori per la fede;

18 Acciocchè, essendo radicati, e fondati in carità, possiate comprendere, con tutti i santi, quale è la larghezza, e la lunghezza, e la profondità, e l'altezza;

19 E conoscer la carità di Cristo, che sopravanza ogni conoscenza ; acciocchè siate ripieni fino a tutta la pienezza di Dio.

20 Or a colui, che può, secondo la potenza che opera in noi, fare infinitamente sopra ciò che noi chieggiamo, o pensiamo;

7 Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. 8 Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: 10 To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,

11 According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:

12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

13 Wherefore I desire that ye faint not at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.

14 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

15 Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,

16 That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man ;

17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;

19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.

20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,

CAPO 4.

O adunque, il prigione, vi esorto

I condegnamente alla vocazione, della quale siete stati chiamati; 2 Con ogni umiltà, e mansuetudine; con pazienza, comportandovi gli uni gli altri in carità;

3 Studiandovi di servar l'unità dello Spirito per lo legame della pace.

4 Vè un corpo unico, e un unico Spirito; come ancora voi siete stati chiamati in un'unica speranza della vostra vocazione;

5 V'è un unico Signore, una fede, un battesimo;

6 Un Dio unico, e Padre di tutti, il quale è sopra tutte le cose, e fra tutte le cose, e in tutti voi.

7 Ma a ciascun di noi è stata data la grazia, secondo la misura del dono di Cristo.

8 Per la qual cosa dice: Essendo salito in alto, egli ha menata in cattività moltitudine di prigioni, e ha dati de' doni agli uomini. 9 Or quello: È salito, che cosa è altro, se non che prima ancora era disceso nelle parti più basse della terra?

10 Colui che è disceso è quell'istesso, il quale ancora è salito di sopra a tutti i cieli, acciocchè empia tutte le cose.

11 Ed egli stesso ha dati gli uni apostoli, e gli altri profeti, e gli altri evangelisti, e gli altri pastori, e dottori ;

12 Per lo perfetto adunamento de' santi, per l' opera del ministerio, per l' edificazione del corpo di Cristo;

13 Finchè ci scontriamo tutti nell'unità della fede, e della conoscenza del Figliuol di Dio, in uomo compiuto, alla misura dell' età matura del corpo di Cristo;

14 Acciocchè non siam più bambini, fiottando, e trasportati da ogni vento di dottrina, per la bar ratteria degli uomini, per la loro

CHAPTER 4.

THEREFORE, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism,

6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

7 But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

8 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto

men.

9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men,

dell' inganno;

15 Ma che, seguitando verità in carità, cresciamo in ogni cosa in colui che è il capo, cioè in Cristo;

16 Dal quale tutto il corpo ben composto, e commesso insieme per tutte le giunture della somministrazione, secondo la virtù che è nella misura di ciascun membro, prende l'accrescimento del corpo all' edificazione di sè stesso in carità.

17 Questo dico adunque, e protesto nel Signore, che voi non camminiate più, come camminano ancora gli altri Gentili, nella vanità della lor mente;

18 Intenebrati nell' intelletto, alieni dalla vita di Dio, per l' ignoranza che è in loro, per l' induramento del cuor loro;

19 I quali, essendo divenuti insensibili da ogni dolore, si sono abbandonati alla dissoluzione, da operare ogni immondizia, con insaziabile cupidità.

20 Ma voi non avete così imparato Cristo;

21 Se pur l'avete udito, e siete stati in lui ammaestrati, secondo che la verità è in Gesù;

22 Di spogliare, quant' è alla primiera conversazione, l' uomo vecchio, il qual si corrompe nelle concupiscenze della seduzione; 23 E d'essere rinnovati per lo Spirito della vostra mente;

24 E d'esser vestiti dell' uono nuovo, creato, secondo Iddio, in giustizia, e santità di verità.

25 Perciò, deposta la menzogna, parlate in verità ciascuno col suo prossimo; conciossiachè noi siam membra gli uni degli altri.

26 Adiratevi, e non peccate; il sole non tramonti sopra il vostro cruccio;

27 E non date luogo al diavolo. 28 Chi rubava non rubi più; anzi più tosto fatichi, facendo qualche buona opera con le proprie mani, acciocchè abbia di che far parte a colui che ha bisogno.

they lie in wait to deceive;

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,

18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:

19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

20 But ye have not so learned Christ;

21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:

22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath :

27 Neither give place to the devil. 28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
