Thou in the morn my voice shalt hear;
And, with the dawning day,
To Thee devoutly I'll look up,
To Thee devoutly pray.

And when thy boundless grace shall me
To thy lov'd courts restore;
On Thee I'll fix my longing eyes,
And humbly there adore.

There let all those, who trust in Thee,
With shouts their joy proclaim;
Let them rejoice whom Thou preserv❜st,
And all that love thy Name.

PSALM VI.-(c. M.)

IN mercy, not in wrath, rebuke
Thy feeble worm, O God;
My spirit dreads thine angry look,
And trembles at thy rod.

O come, and shew thy pow'r to save,
And spare my fainting breath:
For who can praise Thee in the grave,
Who bless thy Name in death?
Satan, my cruel, envious foe,
Insults me in my pain;

He smiles to see me brought so low,
And tells me, hope is vain.

But hence, my enemy! depart!

Nor tempt me to despair;

My Saviour comes to cheer my heart,
My God has heard my pray❜r.

PSALM VIII.-(c. M.)

O LORD, to Whom all creatures bow
Within this earthly frame,

Through all the world how great art Thou!
How glorious is thy Name!

Lord, what is man, that Thou shouldst love
To keep him in thy mind?

Or son of man, that Thou shouldst prove
To him so wondrous kind?

That Thou, th' Eternal Son, shouldst bear
On earth a mortal form;
Made lower than the Angels are,
To save a worthless worm?
To die—that we, by grace restor❜d,
Might life and glory claim?
O great Creator, Saviour, Lord,
How excellent thy Name!

PSALM IX.-(c. M.)

To celebrate thy praise, O Lord,
We will our hearts prepare;
To all the list'ning world thy works,
Thy wondrous works, declare.

The thought of them shall to our soul
Exalted pleasures bring;

Whilst to thy Name, O Thou Most High,
Triumphant praise we sing.

All those who have thy goodness prov'd,
Will in thy truth confide:

Thy mercy ne'er forsook the man
That on thy help relied.

Sing praises therefore to the Lord,
From Sion, his abode;

Proclaim his deeds, till all the world
Confess no other God.

PSALM XIII. (P. M.)

LORD of mercy, just and kind,
Wilt thou ne'er my guilt forgive?
Never shall my troubled mind
In thy kind remembrance live?
Lord, how long, with sorrows vex'd,
Daily shall my heart complain,
While my anxious soul, perplex'd,
Counsel takes, but takes in vain?
Lord, my God, thine ear incline,
Bending to the pray'r of faith;
Cheer my eyes with light divine,
Lest I sleep the sleep of death.
On thy mercy I rely,

Mercy, heavenly Lord, impart ;
Mercy brings salvation nigh,

Mercy shall rejoice my heart.

PSALM XV.-(P. M.)

WHO, great God, with favour blest,
On thy holy hill shall rest?
He, who with a heart sincere
Walks directed by thy fear:
Rules of righteousness divine,
Daily in his practice shine;
Ne'er from truth his lips depart,
Sacred held within his heart:

He will not his neighbour wrong,
By his actions nor his tongue:
He, whose ways are truth and love,
From thy favour shall not move :
He thy grace shall largely share;
All his wants shall be thy care:
He, great God! a welcome guest,
On thy holy hill shall rest.

PSALM XVI.—(c. M.)

I STRIVE each action to approve
To God's all-seeing eye;
No danger shall my hopes remove,
Because He still is nigh.

Therefore my heart all grief defies,
My glory does rejoice,

My flesh shall rest in hope to rise,
Wak'd by his powerful voice.

Thou, Lord, when I resign my breath,
My soul from hell shalt free:

Nor let thy Holy One in death

The least corruption see.

Thou shalt the paths of life display,
Which to thy presence lead;
Where pleasures dwell without allay,
And joys that never fade.

PSALM XVII.—(L. M.)

THIS world is full of toil and wo;
But that bright world, to which we go,
Hath neither sorrow, pain, nor care;

When wilt Thou, Lord, receive us there?

O glorious hour! O blest abode !
We shall be near and like our God;
No more shall sin and sense control
The sacred pleasures of the soul.
Our flesh shall slumber in the ground
Till the last trumpet's joyful sound;
Then burst its chains, with glad surprise,
And in our Saviour's image rise.

PSALM XVIII.—Version 1. (c. M.)
O GOD, my strength and fortitude,
Of force I must love Thee;
Thou art my castle and defence
In my necessity.

When sore beset with pain and grief,
I pray'd to God for grace;

And He forthwith heard my complaint,
Out of his holy place.

The Lord descended from above,
And bow'd the heav'ns most high;
And underneath his feet He cast
The darkness of the sky.
On cherub, and on cherubim,
Full royally He rode;

And on the wings of mighty winds
Came flying all abroad.

PSALM XVIII.-Version 2. (L. M.)
No change of times shall ever shock
My firm affection, Lord, to Thee;
For Thou hast always been a rock,
A fortress and defence to me.
