THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE was established as a Bureau by Act of On February 11th, 1889, it was created a partment, and its then head, Norman J. Colman, took a Congress May 15th, 1862. Cabinet of President Cleveland. The task of the Department is the velopment of scientific methods of agriculture, in which it has highly successful.
