power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. 1 Cor. xv. 2. By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. Rom. v. 1. Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Rom. iii. 25. Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.

SECTION VI.

Heb. xi. 1. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Rom. iv. 18. Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. Rom. viii. 24, 25. For we are saved by hope: but hope, that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. Rom. xv. 4. For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope. Gal. v. 5. For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. Ephes. i. 18. The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints. 1 Thess. i. 2, 3. We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers; remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father. Tit. ii. 13. Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jésus Christ. Phil. i. 20. According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all

boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

SECTION VII.

1 Cor. xiii. 2. 13. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; aud though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity. Gal. v. 6. 22, 23. For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Ephes. iii. 17. (see above.) 1 Thess. v. 8. But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breast-plate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. 1 Tim. i. 5. Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned. James ii. 14. What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? 1 John iv. 21. And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

SECTION VIII.

John iii. 18, 19. 36. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: but he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. Rom. x. 4-10. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. For Moses

159 describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them. But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above :) or, who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith which we preach: that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 2 Tim. ii. 12. If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us. Acts vii. 36, 37. He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years. This is that Moses, which said unto the chil. dren of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear. Mark xvi. 16. He that believeth and is baptized shall he saved; but but he that believeth not shall be damned. Acts xxvi. 18. To open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Heb. vi. 12. That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. 2 Pet. i. 5, 6, 7, 8. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Tim. vi. 12. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also

called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses. Gal. ii. 16. 21. Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law, for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified. I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain. Rom. v. 12. 15. Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead; much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. John i. 12. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name, 2 Thess. ii. 13. But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth. Tit. iii. 8. This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. James ii. 14, 15, 16, 17, 18. 24. 26. What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Ye sce then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith

without works is dead also. 1 Pet. i. 13. Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 2 Thess. ii. 16, 17. Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our father, which have loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work. Matt. xiii. 41, 42, 43. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; and shall cast them into a furnace of fire; and there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear let him hear. Rom. v. 8, 9, 10, 11. But God commandeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
