Notwithstanding New Zealand's embargo on citrus fruits from some Australian States because of the presence of the fruit fly, Australia. is the principal source of imported oranges and mandarins; the United States takes the lead in supplying lemons and grapefruit. Because of increased production of lemons, the New Zealand Government assumed control of the marketing of lemons, with a view of eliminating the necessity of importing this fruit.
