DEC. 1, 1865.

"Swiss Family Robinson," and is in the same general style, though with an additional infusion of characteristic French sprightliness. The text is enlivened by a large number of graphic and spirited illustrations. As we, ourselves, lingered with satisfaction over some of the chapters, we could imagine the pleasure with which the young folks will plunge into all of them.

The Wooing of Master Fox. By Sir Edward Bulwer Lytton, Bart. Arranged for Children by O. D. Martin; illustrated by White. pp. 32. Philadelphia: Ashmead & Evans.

A pleasing story found in Bulwer's "Pilgrims of the Rhine" is here somewhat modified and adapted to the capacity of young folks. It is presented in a very neat form. It contains six illustrations, happily conceived, engraved with spirit, and printed in oil colors, furnishing an excellent specimen of that style. The volume is in every respect creditable to the publishers, and we are sure it will gratify those to whom it is addressed.

Something New for My Little Friends; Original Stories in Verse. pp. 128. Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott & Co.

There are here thirty-four stories in verse written in a style adapted to children, and which they will, no doubt, read with interest.

Die Klugheit und Gelehrigkeit der Thiere; ein bilderbuch für Kinder mit funfzig kleinen Erzahlungen. Illustrirt mit 32 Bildern von Harrison Weire. pp. 62. St. Louis: Conrad Witter.

This is a story book about animals, with large colored illustrations. Those who are studying German will find it a good reading book. It is supplied in the East by E. Steiger, New York. Martin and Nelly. pp. 171. Martin and the Miller. pp. 178.

In these two little books we have recent additions to the "Martin and Nelly Stories," published by Taggard & Thompson, Boston, and written by Josephine Franklin. The list consists of twelve volumes printed in large type on good paper, and illustrated.

MISCELLANEOUS.

School for American Grape Culture; Brief, but Thorough and Practical Guide to the Laying Out of Vineyards, the Treatment of Vines, and the Production of Wine in North America. By Frederick Muench, a citizen of Missouri. Translated from the German by Elizabeth H. Cutter. pp. 139. St. Louis: Conrad Witter.

The success of the German wine-growers at Herman and many other places in Missouri is well known. The present work embodies the results thus attained. It is a translation of a volume which was published last year under the title of "Amerikanische Weinbauschule," and is the production of a practical man.
