That in case the rent, stipulated for above, remains unpaid after the last day of the year for which it is due, as provided above, then the Corean Government may re-enter into possession of the said lot in accordance with the provisions made for this purpose in Article 7 of the above-named Settlement Regulations.

CONVENTION between Great Britain and the Republic of Costa Rica, for the Reciprocal Protection of Trade-marks, &c.* Signed at Guatemala, March 5, 1898.

HER Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Empress of India, and his Excellency Señor Don Rafael Iglesias, President of the Republic of Costa Rica, desiring to conclude a Convention for the reciprocal protection of trade-marks and designs, have appointed as their Plenipotentiaries, that is to say:

Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Empress of India, George Francis Birt Jenner, Esq., Her Britannic Majesty's Minister Resident in Central America, &c., &c.; and

His Excellency Señor Don Rafael Iglesias, President of the Republic of Costa Rica, Honourable Señor Don Ricardo Villafranca y Bonilla, Consul-General of the Republic of Costa Rica at Guatemala :

Who, having communicated to each other their full powers, found in good and due form, have agreed upon the following

Articles:

ART. I. The subjects or citizens of each of the Contracting Parties shall have, in the dominions and possessions of the other, the same rights as are now granted, or may hereafter be granted, to subjects or citizens in all that relates to trade-marks, industrial designs, and patterns.

In order that such rights may be obtained, the formalities required by the laws of the respective countries must be fulfilled.

II. The stipulations of the present Convention shall be applicable to all the Colonies and foreign possessions of Her Britannic Majesty, excepting to those hereinafter named, that is to say, except to—

Provided always that the stipulations of the present Convention shall be made applicable to any of the above-named Colonies or foreign possessions on whose behalf notice to that effect shall have been given by Her Majesty's Representative to the President of the Republic of Costa Rica within one year from the date of the exchange of ratifications of the present Convention.

III. The present Convention shall be ratified, and the ratifications shall be exchanged in London as soon as possible.

It shall come into operation one month after the exchange of ratifications, and shall remain in force until the expiration of one year from the day on which either party may give notice of its intention to terminate it.

WHEREAS by the 88th section of "The Merchant Shipping Act, 1894," it is enacted as follows:

"Where, in accordance with The Foreign Jurisdiction Act, 1890,' Her Majesty exercises jurisdiction within any port, it shall be lawful for Her Majesty by Order in Council to declare that port a port of registry, and by the same or any subsequent Order in Council to declare the description of persons who are to be registrars of British ships at that port of registry, and to make regulations with respect to the registry of British ships thereat."

And whereas by Treaty, grant, usage, sufferance, and other lawful means Her Majesty the Queen bas jurisdiction in and over Cyprus and within all the ports thereof in accordance with the said Foreign Jurisdiction Act, 1890.

And whereas it has been made to appear to Her Majesty that it is expedient to declare the Port of Larnaca, in the Island of Cyprus, a port of registry, and to declare the description of persons who shall be registrars of British ships thereat, and to make regulations with respect to the registry of British ships thereat.

And whereas the provisions of Section 1 of "The Rules Publication Act, 1893," have been complied with.

Now therefore Her Majesty, by virtue of the powers vested in Her in this behalf by the hereinbefore recited Acts or some or one of them, and by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, is pleased to declare and order as follows:
