A communication from the Governor was received and read, in the words following:

Pursuant to concurrent resolution of the Senate and Assembly, herewith returned for amendment, Senate bill (No. 368, Int. No. 205) entitled "An act to amend the Stock Corporation Law, in relation to notice of time and place of holding elections of directors.' ""

Mr. Walters moved to reconsider the vote by which said bill was passed.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to reconsider the vote by which said bill was passed, and it was decided in the affirmative, a majority of all the Senators elected voting in favor thereof, and three-fifths being present, as follows:

Mr. Walters moved that said bill be recommitted to the committee on the judiciary, with instructions to said committee to report the same forthwith, amended as follows:

Page 2, line 13, after the period insert in italics "In the case of a domestic stock life insurance corporation no such election shall be valid unless a copy of such notice shall have been filed in the office of the Superintendent of Insurance at least ten days. before the day of such election in addition to the publication or service thereof, or both, required above. Whenever any of the directors of a domestic stock life insurance corporation shall have resigned and successors shall have been chosen pursuant to the provisions of the by-laws of the corporation, such successors shall not take office nor exercise the duties thereof until ten days after written notice of their election shall have been filed in the office of the Superintendent of Insurance.”

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said motion, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Walters, from the committee on the judiciary, reported said bill amended as directed, and the same was ordered reprinted and placed on the order of third reading.

Mr. Sage, from the committee on finance, to which was referred the resolution introduced by Mr. Malone relative to purchase and distribution of ten thousand copies of the Red Book of 1918, reported in favor of the adoption of the same.

The President put the question whether the Senate would agree to said resolution, and it was decided in the affirmative, as follows:

Mr. Carson, from the committee on labor and industry, to which was referred the Senate bill introduced by Mr. Nicoll (No. 919, Int. No. 210), entitled "An act to amend the Labor Law, in relation to employment and hours of labor of females on railroads," reported in favor of the passage of the same with amendments, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Newton, from the committee on codes, to which was referred the Senate bill introduced by Mr. Halliday (No. 347, Int. No. 329), entitled "An act to amend the Penal Law and the Prison Law, in relation to sentences to reformatories and imprisonment therein," reported in favor of the passage of the same, which

report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Carson, from the committee on labor and industry, to which was referred the Senate bill introduced by Mr. Boylan (No. 1208, Int. No. 443), entitled "An act to amend the Labor Law, in relation to fire alarm signals and fire drills," reported in favor of the passage of the same, which report was agreed to, and said bill committed to the committee of the whole.

Mr. Carson, from the committee on labor and industry, to which was referred the Senate bill introduced by Mr. Carson (No. 840, Int. No. 716), entitled "An act to amend the Labor Law, in relation to floor area and required exits, stairways, fire alarm systems and fire drills, smoking and cleanliness in factories," reported in favor of the passage of the same with amendments, which report was agreed to.
