Bring no more vain oblations,
Incense is an abomination unto me;

The new-moons and sabbaths,
The calling of assemblies
I cannot away with;
It is iniquity,

Even the solemn meeting.

Your new-moons,

And your appointed feasts,
My soul hateth;

They are a trouble unto me,

I am weary to bear them.

And when you spread forth your hands,
I will hide mine eyes from you ;

[blocks in formation]

Come now, let us reason together, saith the Lord;

Though your sins be as scarlet,
They shall be white as snow;

Though they be red like crimson,
They shall be as wool.

If ye be willing and obedient,

Ye shall eat the good of the land.
But if ye refuse and rebel,

Ye shall be devour'd with the sword;
For the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

[blocks in formation]

For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn,

For they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,

For they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righ

teousness,

For they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.

Blessed are the peace-makers,

For they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness' sake,

For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are ye when men shall revile you,
And persecute you,

And shall say all manner of evil against you,
Falsely, for my sake.

Rejoice and be exceeding glad,

For great is your reward in heaven; For so persecuted they the prophets who were before you.

Ye are the salt of the earth;
But if the salt have lost his savour,
Wherewith shall it be salted?

It is thence good for nothing,

But to be cast out,

And trodden under feet of men.

Ye are the light of the world:
A city that is set on a hill
Cannot be hid.

Neither do men light a candle,

And put it under a bushel;

But on a candlestick,

And it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men,

That they may see your good works,
And glorify your Father who is in heaven.

5.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

1.

Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

2.

Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image,

[blocks in formation]

That is in heaven above,

Or that is in the earth beneath,

Or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, Nor serve them;

For I the Lord thy God,

Am a jealous God,

Visiting the iniquities of the fathers upon the children, Unto the third and fourth generation

Of them that hate me;

And shewing mercy

Unto thousands of them that love me,

And keep my commandments.

3.

Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain ;

For the Lord will not hold him guiltless,

That taketh his name in vain.

4.

Remember the Sabbath day,
To keep it holy,

Six days shalt thou labour,

And do all thy work.

But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy

God;

In it thou shalt not do any work,

Thou, nor thy son,

Nor thy daughter,

Thy man-servant,

Thy maid-servant,

Nor thy cattle,

Nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.
