THE CHURCH OF
St. John the Apostle and Gvangelist,
"O sing praises, sing praises unto our God: O sing praises, sing praises unto our King.
"For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.-Psalm xlvii. 6-7.
ALBERT MEGSON, 107, MARKET STREET.
My object in compiling this Hymn Book has been simply to bring together in one Collection those Psalms and Hymns, ancient and modern, where the most beautiful thoughts seemed to me to be clothed in the most reverential language. With this view I have drawn from all sources; and I thankfully express my obligation to those from whose Collections have ventured to borrow.
There are several other Hymns which might have been included, but I purposely limited myself. Where the Hymns are so numerous, they can never be sung sufficiently often for the Congregation to be familiar with them.
We always speak of a HYMN Book, aud therefore I have omitted the title of Psalms, and arranged such of the metrical versions of the Psalms as I have introduced under the general title of Hymns.
