A THE PRAYER OF THE CONSECRATION. LMIGHTY God, our Heavenly Father, Who of Thy tender mercy didst give Thine only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the Cross for our redemption; Who made there (by His one oblation of Himself once offered) a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction, for the sins of the whole world; and did institute, and in His holy Gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memory of that His precious death, until His coming again; ; Hear us, O merciful Father, we most humbly beseech Thee and grant that we receiving these Thy creatures of bread and wine, according to Thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ's holy institution, in remembrance of His Death and Passion, may be partakers of His most blessed Body and Blood: Who, in the same night that He was betrayed, took Bread; and, when He had given thanks, He brake it, and gave it to His disciples, saying, Take, Eat, This is My Body Which is giben for you: Do this in remembrance of Me. Say here,-Hail! Ever-Blessed Body of Christ, once offered on Likewise after Supper He took the Cup; and, when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of this; For This is My Blood of the New Testament, Which is shed for you and for many for the remission of sins: Do this, as oft as ye shall drink it, in remembrance of Me. Amen. Say here,-Hail! Most Holy Blood of my Lord Jesus Christ that E, THEREFORE, O Lord, Holy Father, Thy humble servants, calling to mind, together with the life-giving Passion of Thy dearly-beloved Son Jesus Christ, His Resurrection from the dead, His Ascension into Heaven, His session at the Right Hand, and His glorious and terrible coming again to judge the quick and the dead, offer to Thy excellent Majesty, of Thy gifts and bounties, a pure, a holy, a spotless Sacrifice, the Holy Bread of eternal life and the Cup of everlasting salvation, upon Which do Thou vouchsafe to look with favourable and gracious condescension. And we entreat Thee, Almighty God, command these our prayers to be carried by the ministry of Thy Holy Angel to Thy Altar on High before the sight of Thy Divine Majesty, that as many of us as shall by partaking at this Altar receive the most sacred Body and Blood of Thy Son, may be fulfilled with all grace and heavenly benediction, through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Lamb of God: That takest away the sins of the world; O Lamb of God: That takest away the sins of the world; Have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God: That takest away the sins of the world; Grant us Thy peace. The Sacrifice and the Communion. "THERE WAS SILENCE IN HEAVEN FOR HALF-AN-HOUR." TH `HEE we adore, O hidden Saviour, Thee, O blest Memorial of our dying Lord, Fountain of Goodness, Jesu, Lord and God, O Christ, Whom now beneath a veil we see, "COMMUNE WITH THINE OWN HEART, AND BE STILL." After the Consecration, and so long as the Sacrament is on the Altar, take care that you do not sit. Think : Here is thy Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, Very God and Very Man, present on this Altar. The outward signs of His Presence are the Bread and the Wine. Beneath these signs, veiled in Mystery, are the Holy Body and the Precious Blood. The Ark of God was placed of old in the Temple in the Most Holy Place. A bright cloud hung over it, as the sign of God's Presence. "I will appear," said God, "in the cloud upon the Mercy Seat." (Levit. xvi. 2.) When, therefore, the people of Israel entered into the Temple they bowed down and worshipped. In like manner bow thyself down here in all humility, and worship before the Presence of thy Lord. For great is the Lord and great is His goodness and power. Blessing and glory and honour be unto Him for ever and ever. Thanks be to God. Amen. |
