Senator Carpenter introduced Senate concurrent resolution No. 5, as follows:

Resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring therein, That the Senate and House of Representatives meet in Representative hall in joint session, at twelve o'clock M., Tuesday, January 20, 1903, for the purpose of electing a state printer.

The rules were suspended and the resolution was adopted. Senator Morehouse introduced Senate resolution No. 25, as follows:

. Resolved, That the thanks of the Senate are hereby extended to United States Senator J. R. Burton for the generous, valuable and useful gift to each member of this body of a volume of U. S. Senate Manual and Rules, which we find on our desks.

By Senator Householder: Senate bill No. 1, An act relating to county high school.

Also, Senate bill No. 2, An act relating to change the names of persons therein named.

By Senator Carpenter: Senate bill No. 3, An act supplementary to and amendatory of "An act in relation to the Louisiana Purchase Centennial Exposition, to be held in St. Louis in 1893, and to provide for the collection, arrangement and display of materials showing the products. and resources of the state of Kansas at such exposition," approved March 2, 1901; and extending the time of said. commission and the drawing of the unexpended balance heretofore appropriated; authorizing the president and secretary of said commission to administer oaths in certain cases, and making an additional appropriation for said exposition.

Also, Senate bill No. 4, An act requiring safeguards for the protection of all persons employed or laboring in manufacturing establishments, and providing civil remedies for all persons so engaged, or their personal representatives, in cases where any such person may be killed or injured while employed or laboring in any manufacturing establishment which is not properly provided with the safeguards required by this act.

Also, Senate bill No. 5, An act to provide for a public administrator to have charge of certain estates of soldiers and sailors who die while members of any state or national soldiers' home within the state of Kansas.

Also, Senate bill No. 6, An act to empower the mayor and city council of the city of Thayer to transfer eight hundred dollars of the money now in the city treasury belonging to the improvement fund to the general fund.

By Senator Porter: Senate bill No 7. An act making the secretary of mine industries inspector of weights, measures and scales at coal-mines and defining his powers and duties.

Also, Senate bill No. 8, An act to provide for instruction in industrial training in the schools of this state, permitting and fixing levies therefor, providing for state aid thereto, and making appropriation for such aid.

Also, Senate bill No. 9, An act to provide for raising funds to support and maintain free public libraries in cities. of the first and second class.

Also, Senate bill No. 10, An act to establish at Pittsburg, Kan., an auxiliary normal and manual-training school and making an appropriation therefor.

Also, Senate bill No. 11, An act relating to the mining of coal.

Also, Senate bill No. 12, An act to amend section 1 of an act entitled "An act to amend section 3 of an act entitled 'An act to provide for the health and safety of persons employed in mines,"" being chapter 167 of the Session Laws of 1901.

Also, Senate bill No. 14, An act to amend section 2 of chapter 47 of the Session Laws of 1897, relating to banks and banking, providing for the organization, management, control, regulation and supervision of banks, and providing penalties for violation of the provisions of this act, and repealing chapter 43 of the Laws of 1891.

Also, Senate bill No. 15, An act to amend section 130 of chapter 37 of the General Statutes of 1868, entitled "An act respecting executors and administrators and the settlement of the estates of deceased persons."

Also, Senate bill No. 16, An act to provide for the transportation of discharged convicts from the place of confinement to the county in which they were convicted and making an appropriation to cover the expense.

Also, Senate bill No. 17, An act making certified copies of the United States government patents certified to by the proper officer of the United States, at Washington, D. C., as true copies of the original patents issued, competent as evidence and conclusive proof of title as therein shown.

Also, Senate bill No. 18, An act to provide for a board of public utilities in cities of the first and second classes and defining its duties and powers.

Also, Senate bill No. 19, An act in relation to the admission of attorneys at law and providing for the examination of those persons desiring to be admitted to practice law, and repealing sections 1 and 3 of chapter 11 of the General Statutes of Kansas of 1868.

Also, Senate bill No. 21, An act relating to the government and regulation of orphan and friendless children in the Kansas State Protective Home, at Leavenworth.

Also, Senate bill No. 26, An act to amend section 639 of the code of civil procedure of the state of Kansas, being paragraph 5132 of the General Statutes of the state of Kansas, 1901, relating to divorce, and repealing said original section.

Also, Senate bill No. 27, An act to amend section 651a of the code of civil procedure of the state of Kansas, being paragraph 5147 of the General Statutes of Kansas, 1901, relating to the competency of witnesses in actions for divorce and alimony, and to repeal said original section.

Also, Senate bill No. 30, An act vacating certain blocks, streets and alleys in the city of Kendall, Hamilton county, Kansas.

Also, Senate bill No. 31, An act to amend section 2 of chapter No. 234 of the Laws of 1887, and to repeal said section 2, chapter 234, of the Laws of 1887, and all acts and parts of acts in conflict herewith.

Also, Senate bill No. 32, An act vacating certain lots, blocks, streets, avenues and alleys in the city of Syracuse, Hamilton county, Kansas.

Also, Senate bill No. 33, An act making appropriation for the State Soldiers' Home and Mother Bickerdyke Home for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1903, June 30, 1904, and June 30, 1905, and placing restrictions upon certain officers of said home.

Also, Senate bill No. 34, An act to authorize school district No. 5 of Harper county to make an additional levy for school purposes.

Also, Senate bill No. 35, An act to amend sections 2 and 24 of chapter 109 of the Session Laws of 1893.

Also, Senate bill No. 36, An act to prevent the pooling of rates by fire insurance companies and providing penalties therefor.

Also, Senate bill No. 37, An act to amend chapter 93 of the Laws of 1874, entitled "An act to define the liability of railroad companies in certain cases," approved February 28, 1874, and to repeal said original act.
