Senator Buschow introduced Senate resolution No. 80, as follows:

Resolved, That the Senate give to the lieutenant-governor the desk and chair in his private office, and to his private secretary the desk and chair he has used during the session.

The resolution was adopted.

Senator McKnight moved that House bill No. 114 be recalled from the House.

The motion prevailed.

Senator Henley was excused for the rest of the session. Senator Noftzger called up the message from the House relating to Senate bill No. 441.

Senator Noftzger moved that the House be requested to send the report of the conference committee on Senate bill No. 441 to the Senate.

The motion prevailed.

On motion of Senator Noftzger, the Senate adjourned.

Senator Chaney, chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means, offered the following reports:

MR. PRESIDENT: Your Committee on Ways and Means, to whom was referred House bill No. 987, An act to authorize and empower the board of county commissioners of any county and mayor and council of any city within the state of Kansas to appropriate money or issue bonds for the purpose therein expressed, and to perpetuate the memory of the soldiers of the Union in the war of the rebellion, have had the same under consideration, and instruct me to report the bill back to the Senate with the recommendation that it be passed.

Also, House bill No. 983, An act for the relief of William F. Alexander, and instruct me to report the bill back to the Senate with the recommendation that it be passed.

Also, House bill No. 986, An act providing for the admission of certain hospital nurses into the Mother Bickerdyke Home annex to the State Soldiers' Home, and instruct me to report the bill back to the Senate with the recommendation that it be passed.

Also, House bill No. 984, An act making appropriations for the state oil inspector's department for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1904, and June 30, 1905; and for the state grain inspector's department for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1904, and June 30, 1905, and for deficiencies from December 1, 1901, to January 1, 1903; and to defray the current expenses of the Live-stock Sanitary Commission for the balance of the fiscal year ending June 30, 1903, for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1904, and June 30, 1905, and to pay deficiencies for the years 1901 and 1902, and instruct me to report the bill back to the Senate with the recommendation that it be amended, and passed as amended:

On page 2 of the bill, in the items appropriated to the Live-stock Sanitary Commission the amounts in item 1 of $1000, $5000, and $5000, be stricken out, and the amount $3000 for 1904, and $3000 for 1905, be entered in lieu thereof.

In item 3, the amount of $720 for each year be stricken out, and $600 be entered in lieu thereof for each year.

That the last item on page 2 of the bill be made to read "J. M. Bryan" instead of "J. H. Bryan."

Also, House bill No. 942, An act to establish a fish hatchery, and making an appropriation therefor, and instruct me to report the bill back to the Senate with the recommendation that it be not passed.

MR. PRESIDENT: I am directed by the House to inform the Senate that the House has amended, and passed as amended, Senate bill No. 680, An act authorizing the Central Kansas Fair Association to police its grounds.

Also amended, and passed as amended, Senate bill No. 223, An act in relation to automobiles and motor vehicles, regulating their speed and operation on the public highways in this state, providing for their proper equipment, and requiring the owners of such vehicles to register with the secretary of state.

Also, passed Senate bill No. 42, An act to amend section 3 of chapter 25 of the Session Laws of 1895, as amended by chapter 194 of the Session Laws of 1901, and to repeal chapter 194 of the Session Laws of 1901.

Also, concurred in Senate amendments to House bill No. 823, An act relating to the Parsons State Hospital and making provisions for government therefor.

PRESIDENT: I am directed by the House to inform the Senate that the House has passed Senate bill No. 274, An act to provide for the indeterminate sentence of persons convicted of certain felonies, for the termination of such sentence, and the release of such person, defining the duties of the directors and warden of the Penitentiary in relation thereto, and repealing section 5686 of the General Statutes of 1901, and all other acts and parts of acts in conflict herewith.

Also, passed Senate bill No. 530, An act to amend section 24, article 2, chapter 27, of the Session Laws of 1868, entitled "An act relating to the supreme court," and being section 1917 of the General Statutes of 1901, and to repeal the original section 24 of article 2 of chapter 27 of the Laws of 1868, being section 1917 of the Statutes of Kansas, 1901.

Also, concurred in Senate amendments to House bill No. 617, An act to amend chapter 80 of the General Statutes of the state of Kansas, entitled "An act to establish a code of civil procedure," and repeal section 548 thereof.

Also, concurred in Senate amendments to House bill No. 277, An act to regulate the construction and maintenance of trolley and electric wires over railway-tracks and the operation of street-cars over railway-tracks.

Also, passed Senate bill No. 283, An act to amend section 2 of chapter 122 of the Laws of 1874, the same being paragraph 5590 of the Compiled Laws of 1889, relating to the appraisement of school property, and repealing the original section.

No. 446, An act making appropriations for current expenses for the Kansas State School for Feeble-minded Youth, at Winfield, for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1904, and June 30, 1905, and for the construction of new kitchen, bakery, employees' quarters, stand-pipe, cistern, barn and equipment, for the fiscal years ending June 30, 1903, and June 30, 1904.

No. 675, An act to amend section 1 of chapter 80 of the Laws of 1899, relating to the appointment of certain officers therein named in cities of the first class having a population of over 40,000 inhabitants, and repealing said original section.
