FIRST SESSION OF THE SEVENTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF MISSOURI,

Begun and held at the City of Jefferson, on Monday the thirtieth day of August A. D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty-two, pursuant to a proclamation issued by Austin A. King, Governor, dated August 4th, A. D. 1852.

The Chair was taken by the Hon. Thomas L. Rrice, Lieutenant Governor and President of the Senate, and at his request the Senate was opened by prayer from the Rev. J. G. Fackler.

On motion of Mr. Hudspeth, James L. Minor was requested to act as Secretary pro tem.

The roll of the Senate was then called, and the following Senators answered to their names:

Messrs. Allen, Broadhead, Brooking, Chew, Drake, Elston, Flournoy, Griffin, Grover, Hudspeth, Jackson, James, Jones, McCoy, Morriss, Noell, Parks, Rawlins, Reed, Richardson, Roberts, Russell, Stewart, Stout, Sturgeon, Vernon, White, and Winston-28.

Absent-Messrs. Crow, Lindsay, Robinson and Young-4.
Reported to be sick-Mr. Dunlap.

The following Senators appeared, presented their credentials, were qualified and took their seats:

From the first Senatorial District, Robert H. Parks.

From the seventh Senatorial District, Thomas S. Richardson.

From the eleventh Senatorial District, Owen Rawlins.

From the twenty-first Senatorial District, Archibald McCoy.. From the twenty-fourth Senatorial District, Benjamin W. Grover. From the thirtieth Senatorial District, Isaac H. Sturgeon and Walter B. Morriss.

From the seventeenth Senatorial District, James Russell.

Andrew M. Elston, Senator elect from the twenty-seventh Senatorial District, having been previously sworn as one of the committee to settle with the Auditor and Treasurer, presented his credentials and took

his seat.

A quorum being present, on motion

The Senate adjourned until 3 o'clock, P. M.
