The Senate met pursuant to adjournment.

Message from the House of Representatives, by Mr. Block, assistant clerk.

Mr. President:

The House has amended, and passed as amended, Senate bill entitled, An act to amend an act entitled an act to incorporate the St. Louis and Birmingham iron mining company.

A bill of the following title has passed the House:

An act amendatory of an act entitled an act respecting the State University, approved March 10th 1849.

The House has laid on the table to the first day of March next,
An act to incorporate the Bremen and St. Louis city railroad.

The President laid before the Senate the resignation of C. R. Morehead of the office of director of the branch of the bank of the State of Missouri at Lexington.

Mr. Jackson, from the select committee, appointed to examine the condition of the Governor's House and the furniture thereof,

On leave, reported by bill entitled,

A bill to appropriate money to furnish the Governor's House and fɔr other purposes,

Which was read a first time, rule suspended, read a second and third time and passed.

Mr. Jones, on leave introduced a bill entitled,

An act authorizing the new digest of the decisions of the supreme court to be procured and fornished to certain cfficers;

Which was read a first time, rules suspended, read a second time, and referred to the committee on the Judiciary.

On motion of M. Noell,

Senate bill entitled,

An act to amend an act entitled an act to incorporate t'ie St. Louis and Birmingham iron mining company,

Was taken up, and the House amendment thereto was read and con

curred in.

Mr. Broadhead, from the select committee to which was referred, A petition from citizens of Pike county, asking a charter for a railroad from St. Charles to the Des Moines river,

On leave reported by bill entitled,

An act to incorporate the Mississippi valley railroad north; Which was read a first time, rules suspended, read a second and third time and passed.

Mr. Jones, on leave introduced a bill entitled,

An act concerning trials in cases in the supreme court from Craw

ford county;

Which was read a first time, rules suspended, read a second and third time and passed.

Mr. Grover, on leave introduced a bill entitled,

An act to attach certain sections in Johnson county, to school township No. 44, range No. 26, for school purposes;

Which was read a first time, rules suspended, read a second and third time and passed.

Mr. Winston, from the committee on the Judiciary, to which was referred Senate bill entitled,

An act for the relief of Robert France;

On leave, reported the same back to the Senate and recommended its rejection.

The report was agreed to, and the bill was rejected.

Mr. Winston, from the same committee, to which was referred House bill entitled;

An act for the relief of Jeremiah Berry;

On leave, reported the same back to the Senate for its further consideration.

The bill was then read a third time and passed.

Bills and other business from the House of Representatives being in order, House bills of the following titles were severally taken up, read a first time, rule suspended, read a second and third time and passed.

An act to change the name of Peter Byrne to that of Peter O'Donnell Byrne;

An act for the benefit of the infant heirs of John Nailor, deceased;

An act to provide for the paying of petit jurors, in the counties of Wayne and Butler;

An act for the relief of Francis M. Cockrell of Johnson county;

An act for the relief of Rachel M. Fox and Mary E. Fox, minors, of Johnson county.

On motion of Mr. Grover, the vote taken this morning, rejecting Senate bill entitled,

An act for the relief of Robert France,

Was reconsidered; and the bill was then read a third time and passed, the report of the committee on the judiciary having been disagreed to,

On motion of Mr. Stewart.

Mr. Robinson gave notice that he would on to-morrow or some subsequent day, introduce a bill supplemental to an act entitled,

An act to incorporate the Platte country railroad company, and to expedite the construction of said railroad.

Mr. White, from the committee on Swamp Lands, to which was referred House bill entitled,

An act amendatory of an act donating certain swamp and overflowed lands to the counties in which they lie, approved March 3rd, 1851;

On leave reported the same back to the Senate and recommended its rerejection.

On motion of Mr. White, the bill and report were passed over for the present.

Mr. White, from the Select committee, to which was referred House bill entitled,

An act entitled an act to change a part of the county lines of the counties of Stoddard, Dunklin and Cape Girardeau,

On leave, reported the same back to the Senate and recommended its passage.

The bill was then read a third time and passed, by the following vote, the ayes and noes being demanded by Mr. Russell:

AYES-Messrs. Broadhead, Brooking, Drake, Elston, Grover, Jones, Lindsay, McCoy, Morris, Noell, Richardson, Roberts, Robinson, Stewart, Stout, Sturgeon, Vernon, White and Young-19.

NOES-Messrs. Chew, Dunlap, Flournoy, Hudspeth, Jackson, Parks, Rawlins and Russell-8.

Absent-Messrs. Crow, Reed and Winston.

Absent on leave-Messrs. Allen and Griffin.

Excused from voting-Mr. James.

On motion of Mr. Robinson,

The message of the Governor vetoing Senate bills entitled,

An act to incorporate the Platte country railroad company, and to expedite the construction of said railroad;

And also,

An act to revive and amend an act entitled an act to incorporate the Lexington and Daviess county railroad, approved February 10th, 1851, and to expedite the construction of said railroad;

Was taken up.

The Senate then proceeded to reconsider the vote passing Senate bill entitled,

An act to incorporate the Platte country railroad company, and to expedite the construction of said railroad;

And the question being, shall the bill pass, (the objections of the Governor to the contrary notwithstanding.)

Before the vote was taken;

On motion of Mr. Robinson,

The Senate adjourned until half past 2 o'clock P. M.

Mr. Stout, from the committee appointed by the Governor to examine into the condition of the office of register of lands, submitted a report in reference thereto;

Which was, on motion of Mr. Broadhead, laid on the table.

Mr. Stewart moved a call of the Senate, which was ordered, and the following Senators were noted as being absent:

Messrs. Winston and Young.

The question before the Senate being, shall the Senate bill entitled, An act to incorporate the Platte country railroad company, and to expedite the construction of said railroad be passed, (the objections of the Governor to the contrary notwithstanding.)

It was decided in the affirmative by the following vote:

AYES-Messrs. Allen, Brooking, Chew, Crow, Grover, James, Lindsay, McCoy, Morris, Reed, Richardson, Roberts, Robinson, Stewart, Stout, Sturgeon, White and Winston-18.

NOES-Messrs. Broadhead, Drake, Dunlap, Elston, Flournoy, Griffin, Hudspeth, Jackson, Jones, Noell, Parks, Rawlins, Russell and Vernon-14.

Absent-Mr. Young.

On motion of Mr. Chew,

The Senate then proceeded to reconsider the vote passing Senate bill entitled,

An act to revive and amend an act entitled an act to incorporate the Lexington and Daviess county railroad, approved February 10, 1851, and to expedite the construction of said railroad.

And the question being, shall the bill be passed, (the objection of the Governor to the contrary notwithstanding.)

An act to change the name of Giles Holman, of Dade county, in the State of Missouri, to Giles Hudspeth;

An act to authorize the county court of Cooper county to build a bridge over the La Mine river, at Turley's ferry in said county;

An act to establish a state road from Joel Burnums in Clinton county, to intersect the state road from Liberty to Smithville, in Clay county, at or near Platte meeting house;

An act to change a portion of a state road in the county of Clay.

House bills of the following titles were severally taken up, and disposed of as follows :

An act amendatory of an act respecting executors and administrators;
Which was read a first time, rule suspended, read a second time;

When Mr. Morris moved to amend as follows:

Amend the bill by inserting the enacting clause.

The amendment was read a first time, rule suspended, read a second time and agreed to.

And the bill as amended was referred to the committee on the Judiciary. An act to establish a state road in the counties of Warren and St. Charles; Which was read a first time, and ordered to a second reading.

An act to amend an act to authorize the formation of associations, to construct plank roads and MeAdamized roads, approved February 21, 1851; Which was read a first time, rule suspended, read a second time and referred to the committee on Internal Improvements.

An act to enable the trustees of the first Presbyterian church in the city of St. Louis, to borrow money;

Which was read a first time, rule suspended, read a second time and referrel to a select committee consisting of Messrs. Crow, Morris, Sturgeon and Allen.

An act supplementary to and amen latory of an act to establish a court of common pleas in the city of Cape Girardeau, approved February 22d, 1851; Which was read a first time, rule suspended, read a second time;

When Mr. Russell moved its reference to the Judiciary committee, which motion was decided in the negative.

The bill was read a third time and passed.

An act requiring the county court of Cooper county to examine and correct the assessor's book;

Which was read a first time, rule suspended, read a second time;
When Mr. Dunlap moved to amend as follows:

Amend by adling after the word "Cooper" the words "and Moniteau." The amendment was read a at time, rule suspended, read a second time and agreed to;
