TESTIMONY OF MEMBERS OF CONGRESS AND INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS TEXAS PROJECTS WITNESS HON. JACK BROOKS, A REPRESENTATIVE IN CONGRESS FROM THE STATE OF TEXAS Mr. BEVILL. The committee will come to order. We will start off with our favorite member of Congress this morning, our good friend Jack Brooks, who always expedites these hearings and impresses this committee. Mr. BROOKS. Thank you very much, Mr. Chairman. We thank you for the opportunity to appear today to urge the subcommittee's favorable consideration of the public works projects of the 9th Congressional District of Texas included in the fiscal year 1985 budget. Mr. Chairman, I support funding those items included in the budget proposal, including Taylor's Bayou, and in the interest of time will submit a list of them with my statement rather than discuss each one individually. In addition, I am requesting that two of these budgeted projects be funded to the full extent of the Corps of Engineers' capability. These are the Dickinson Bayou flood control study, $300,000; and the Pine Island Bayou flood control study, $250,000. The additional funds for Dickinson Bayou and Pine Island Bayou will advance study completion for each of these projects by four months and seven months, respectively. In addition, although the Trinity River and Tributaries Channel to Liberty project is not in the budget, I support the Corps' capability of $1 million for dredging the Anahuac Channel and the Channel to Liberty. Mr. Chairman, this project as well as the Pine Island Bayou project are primarily in Congressman Charles Wilson's district; however, they do impact upon my district and I am pleased to support Congressman Wilson in his own personal efforts on behalf of these projects. Also, Mr. Chairman, I am requesting that two authorized projects, not included in the budget for fiscal year 1985, be funded for initial construction purposes.
