At the hour of 12:40 o'clock p. m. Mr. Shanahan moved that the House do now take a recess until 4 o'clock p. m.

Mr. Lee O'Neil Browne moved, as a substitute, that the House do now adjourn until 10 o'clock a. m. tomorrow.

And the question being on the adoption of the substitute, a division of the House was had, resulting as follows: Yeas, 57; nays, 67. And the substitute was lost.

The question recurring on the motion of Mr. Shanahan to take a recess until 4:00 o'clock p. m., it was decided in the affirmative.
