The Journal of Saturday, January 16, was being read, when, on motion of Mr. Merritt, the further reading of the same was dispensed with, and it was ordered to stand approved. The order of business at the hour of adjournment on Thursday, January 14, being the selection of a Temporary Speaker, the Secretary of State directed the Clerk to call the roll, which resulted as follows: Those voting for Mr. Lee O'Neil Browne are: Messrs. Those voting for Mr. Williamson are: Messrs. Those voting for Mr. Gorman are: Messrs. Kane Total-2. No person having received the necessary constitutional majority, a call of the roll was again ordered, resulting as follows: Those voting for Mr. Lee O'Neil Browne are: Messrs. Young Wilson, G. H. Wilson, H. Total-60. No person having received the necessary constitutional majority, a call of the roll was again ordered, resulting as follows: Those voting for Mr. Lee O'Neil Browne are: Messrs. No person having received the necessary constitutional majority, the Secretary of State announced that there was no choice for Temporary Speaker. Mr. Tice moved that when the House concludes this morning's session, it take a recess until 2:00 o'clock p. m., And the motion prevailed. Mr. Tice thereupon asked and obtained unanimous consent of the House to listen to a discussion of the foot and mouth disease at the afternoon session, and moved that a committee consisting of three Republicans and three Democrats be appointed by the Secretary of State to wait upon the Governor and other gentlemen and invite them to be present and address the House, And the motion prevailed. The Secretary of State appointed as such committee: Messrs. Devine, Dalton, Foster, Scanlan, Lantz and Tompkins. At the hour of 11:50 o'clock a. m., Mr. Igoe moved that the House do now take a recess until 2:00 o'clock p. m., And the motion was lost.
