WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 6, 1915.

At a regular session of the Forty-ninth General Assembly of the State of Illinois, begun and holden at the Capitol in the city of Springfield, at 12 o'clock noon, on the Wednesday next after the first Monday in January, the same being the 6th day of January, in the year of our Lord, 1915, pursuant to the provisions of section nine (9), article four (4) of the Constitution of the State of Illinois,

The Honorable Lewis G. Stevenson, Secretary of State, called the House to order to preside over its deliberations until the election of a temporary presiding officer, as provided by the Constitution.

Prayer was offered by the Reverend Donald C. MacLeod.

The Secretary of State designated B. H. McCann and J. L. Hammond as provisional clerks and John P. Maloney as provisional doorkeeper, pending the temporary organization of the House, and directed Mr. McCann to call the roll of Representatives-elect of the Forty-ninth General Assembly, compiled as follows from the official returns on file in the office of Secretary of State:

The Secretary of State announced that all members-elect, on the foregoing roll, were present, except Francis E. Williamson of the Twentyfourth District.

Mr. Shanahan, on behalf of the Republican members, gave notice that they would claim the right of Mr. Green of the Thirty-fourth District to a seat as a member of this House.

Mr. Donahue, on behalf of the Democratic members, gave notice that they would claim the right of Mr. Howard of the Thirty-fourth District to a seat as a member of this House.

Mr. Burns offered the following resolution and moved its adoption:

HOUSE RESOLUTION No. 1. Resolved, That a committee of six members be appointed by the Secretary of State to call upon the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and request him to administer the oath of office to the members-elect of the House of Representatives of the Forty-ninth General Assembly, when ready to take the oath of office prescribed by the Constitution.

And the resolution was adopted.

The Secretary of State thereupon appointed as such committee: Messrs. Burns, Shurtleff, Lee O'Neil Browne, McCormick, Thomas Curran and Donahue.

Mr. Burns, from the Committee heretofore appointed to wait upon the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and request him to administer the oath of office to the members-elect of the House of Representatives, announced that Chief Justice James H. Cartwright of the Supreme Court was present and ready to perform the duty.

Whereupon, the oath of office was administered by the Chief Justice to all members-elect, as shown by the foregoing roll, except Francis E. Williamson.

Mr. Smejkal offered the following resolution and moved its adoption:

HOUSE RESOLUTION No. 2.
Resolved, That the House now proceed to the election of a Temporary
Speaker.

And the resolution was adopted.
Mr. Igoe offered the following resolution and moved its adoption:

HOUSE RESOLUTION No. 3. Resolved, That in the presentation of names of candidates for Temporary Speaker, nominating speeches be limited to five minutes, and speeches seconding the nominations be limited to two minutes.

And the resolution was adopted.

Mr. Hubbard placed in nomination for Temporary Speaker Hon. W. C. Kane.

Mr. Rothschild presented the name of Hon. Walter M. Provine.
Mr. Hilton presented the name of Hon. Lee O'Neil Browne.
Mr. Campbell presented the name of Hon. Homer J. Tice.
Mr. Burres presented the name of Hon. Edward D. Shurtleff.
Mr. Thomas Curran presented the name of Hon. James H. Vickers.
Mr. Rinehart presented the name of Hon. Arthur Roe.
Mr. Morrasy presented the name of Hon. John P. Devine.
Mr. Hennebry presented the name of Hon. James H. Farrell.
Mr. Barker presented the name of Hon. James A. Watson.

There being no other nominations, a call of the roll was had, resulting as follows:
