In the Constitutional history of the United States, which runs through all the Presidential Administrations, the writer has availed himself of all the standard works. THE movement to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the inauguration of George Washington, as President of the United States in 1789, rose out of a mass meeting of citizens of New York, at which a committee was appointed to arrange details and to enlist the interest of other States, and of the State and National governments. The undertaking was one of stupendous proportions, but has been fitly carried out. The various sub-committees appointed have done their work well. Most of the Territories and all of the States will be represented by commissioners or militia details, or both. The State of New York, through the Legislature, acted promptly and liberally.
