IMPORTS FOR CONSUMPTION, BY ARTICLES AND CLASSES, 1891-1896. The arrangement of articles into classes is that adopted by the Bureau of Statistics since 1880, and must not be confounded with the tariff schedules. These classes are: A. Articles of food and live animals. B. Articles, in a crude condition, which enter into the various processes of domestic industry. C. Articles wholly or partially manufactured for use as materials in manufactures and mechanic arts. D. Articles manufactured ready for consumption. E. Articles of voluntary use, luxuries, etc. The object of the table is to show what may be regarded as the imports of any article or class in a year of average trade.
