HE offering of either a Manual of "Private Daily Prayers" or of a Companion to the Altar" seems at first sight to require an apology. But in the present instance it is earnestly hoped that this little volume will be found useful to some persons. The name is suggestive of its intention, which is to provide a Form of Daily Prayer for all members of the Church who are Communicants. For many such the time is now, thank God, past, when their "Companion to the Altar" (by whatever title it was known) was a book rarely used, and, except on special occasions, seldom in their hands. The Churchman's daily companion, it is now felt, must include the forms hitherto separately provided for sacramental preparation.
