FOR 42 YEARS THE U.S. HAS EXPORTED MORE GOODS AND SERVICES THAN IT HAS IMPORTED $ BILLION THIS HAS BEEN POSSIBLE IN PART BECAUSE OF U.S. ECONOMIC AID Comparison of Exports With Key Segments of U.S. Economy The Second Chart shows an interesting fact about the relation of U.S. exports to our gross national product (the sum total of the value of all the goods and services the Nation produces). Our exports make up over 42 percent of our gross national product. This is a higher percentage than is involved in such items as consumer purchases of automobiles, parts, and accessories, or of furniture and household equipment. It is also higher than sales of primary iron and steel producers or of residential nonfarm construction. This illustrates how important exports are in contributing to the total level of economic activity in the United States. Exports as Percent of U.S. Agricultural Production The Third Chart deals with a group of important U.S. agricultural products. |
