PORT AND

HARBOR

FACILITIES

PIERS, WHARVES, AND DOCKS

Eleven piers, wharves, and docks are described in this report for the port of Palm Beach, Fla. Nine, owned by the Board of Commissioners of the Port of Palm Beach District, are located along the sides of 2 slips (Slips Nos. 1 and 2) and the west side of a turning basin in Lake Worth; one is on the west side of the Lake just south of the turning basin; and one is on the south side of Peanut Island. Each facility is described in detail under a reference number in the following table of Piers, Wharves, and Docks. These reference numbers designate facility locations on the accompanying Port Facilities Map, page 82A.

Six of the waterfront facilities handle general cargo and passengers in foreign and domestic trades; they are also used for mooring small vessels; bunkering vessels; receiving fuel oil and bulk cement; and shipping trucks, and highway trailers loaded with cargo. One of the facilities ships fuel oil by barge; one receives fresh fruit and vegetables; one receives crushed stone, sand, and bulk cement and ships cement blocks; and 2 are used for mooring small vessels.

A summary of the facilities engaged in handling general cargo is given below.
