It was determined in the affirmative.

Mr. Tait, from the committee on naval affairs, to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act authorizing the payment of a sum of money to Joseph Stewart and others," reported it without amendment.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill entitled "An act to fix the commissions of the collectors of the direct tax and internal duties, and to revive and continue in force "An act further to provide for the collection of duties on imports and tonnage." On motion by Mr. Mason, of N. H.

T'o strike out the 3d section of the bill, as follows:

"Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That the act entitled 'An act further to provide for the collection of duties on imports and tonnage,' passed on the third day of March, one thousand eight hun

dred and fifteen, be, and the same is hereby revived and made of force: Provided however, That nothing in the eighth section thereof, shall be construed to affect the duration of the act so revived, but the said act shall be of force without limitation as to time."

It was determined in the negative, yeas 8, uays 12.
