The bill entitled "An act declaring the consent of Congress to acts of the State of South-Carolina, authorizing the city council of Charleston to impose and collect a duty on the tonnage of ves sels from foreign ports; and to acts of the State of Georgia, authorizing the imposition and collection of a duty on the tonnage of vessels in the ports of Savannah and St. Marys," was read the second time.

The resolution requiring the Secretary of State to compile and print, once in every two years, a register of all officers and agents, civil, military, and naval, in the service of the United States, was read the second time.

The bill concerning the maritime precincts of the United States, was read the second time.

Mr. Roberts reported from the committee that they had examined and found duly enrolled the bill entitled "An act authorizing the President of the United States to alter the road laid out from the foot of the rapids of the river Miami of Lake Erie, to the western line of the Connecticut Re

serve," the bill entitled "An act to authorize the legislature of the State of Ohio to sell a certain part of a tract of land reserved for the use of that State," also the bill entitled "An act supplementary to an act entitled 'An act to incorporate a company for making certain turnpike roads within the District of Columbia."

The Senate resumed the consideration of the motion submitted the 9th inst. by Mr. King, which was amended and agreed to as follows:

Resolved, That the Senate, in compliance with the resolution of the House of Representatives of the 8th inst. do allow the attendance of the honourable Nathan Sanford, a member of this House, before the committee of the House of Representatives, for the purpose of giving his testimony in the matter under exmination of the said committee concerning the alleged misconduct of Matthias B. Tallmadge, one of the judges of the district court for the State of New-York.

Ordered, That the Secretary notify the House of Representatives accordingly.
