Mr. Roberts reported from the committee that they had this day laid before the President of the United States the enrolled bill entitled "An act for the relief of Erastus Loomis."

On motion,

The Senate adjourned to eleven o'clock tomorrow morning; to which time the several orders of the day were postponed.

TUESDAY, MARCH 26th, 1816.

Mr. Dana presented the petition of Nehemiah Hubbard, and others, inhabitants of the collection district of Middletown, in the State of Connectieut, praying that the port of Middletown may be constituted a port of entry, for reasons stated in the petition, which was read.

On motion by Mr. Dana,

Resolved, That it be referred to a select committee to consider and report thereon by bill or otherwise.

Ordered, That Mr. Dana, Mr. Sanford, and Mr. Daggett, be the committee.

Mr. Wilson, from the committee to whom was recommitted the bill entitled "An act in addition to An act to regulate the post-office establishment," reported it with amendments, which were read and considered as in committee of the whole; and the amendments having been agreed

to, with a further amendment, the President reported the bill to the House accordingly.

On the question" Shall the amendments be engrossed, and the bill read a third time as amended ?"

It was determined in the affirmative.

Mr. Barbour, from the committee on military affairs, to whom was referred the bill entitled "An act for the relief of John T. Wirt," reported it without amendment.

The bill establishing a port of delivery at the Bayou St. John, was read the second time.

The bill entitled "An act placing certain persons on the list of navy pensioners," was read the second time.

On motion by Mr. Varnum,

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee on naval affairs, to consider and report thereon. The bill entitled "An act for organizing the general staff, and making further provision for the army of the United States," was read the se

cond time.

On motion by Mr. Barbour,

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee on military affairs, to consider and report thereon.

The Senate resumed the consideration of the motion made the 22d inst. for information in relation to the proceedings which have been had in pursuance of the act of the 10th of February, 1807, entitled "An act to provide for surveying the coasts of the United States," and agreed thereto.

Mr. Roberts reported from the committee that they had on the 25th inst. laid before the President of the United States the enrolled bill entitled "An act relating to settlers on the lands of the United States;" also the enrolled bill entitled "An act authorizing a subscription for the printing of a second edition of the public documents." The following message was received from the President of the United States, by Mr. Todd, his Secretary:

Mr. President-The President of the United States this day approved and signed "An act relating to settlers on the lands of the United States:" also "An act authorizing a subscription for the printing of a second edition of the public documents."

Ordered, That the Secretary notify the House of Representatives accordingly.

The Senate resumed the consideration of the report of the committee on finance and an uniform national currency, to whom was referred the petition of Willet Coles. Whereupon,

Resolved, That the petitioner have leave to withdraw his petition.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill entitled "An act to incorporate the subscribers to the bank of the United States." Mr. Varnum was requested to take the chair.

Mr. Mason, of N. H. having withdrawn the motion made the 25th inst. to amend the 3d section,

proposed the following proviso, to be added to

the 12th rule.

"Provided, That all bills or notes so to be i3sued by said corporation, shall be made payable on demand, other than bills or notes for the payment of a sum not less dollars each, and payable to the order of some person or persons, which bills or notes it shall be lawful for said corporation to make payable at any time not exceeding days from the date thereof."

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27th, 1816.

Mr. Daggett presented the petition of Daniel Carroll, of Duddington, and others, citizens of Washington, praying an act to incorporate a company to continue a turnpike road leading from Calvert's mills, from the district line, to the Eastern Branch bridge, as stated in the petition, which was read.

On motion by Mr. Daggett,

Resolved, That it be referred to a select committee, to consider and report thereon by bill or otherwise.

Ordered, That Mr. Daggett, Mr. Horsey, and Mr. Mason, of Va. be the committee.
