On motion by Mr. Roberts,

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee on so much of the message of the President of the United States as relates to finance and an uniform national currency, to consider and report thereon.

The bill entitled "An act for the relief of the heirs of George Nebinger," was read the second time.

The bill entitled "An act for the relief of Jonathan White," was read the second time.

On motion by Mr. Roberts,

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee appointed, the 7th of December, on the memorial of the Legislature of the Mississippi Territory, to consider and report thereon.

The bill entitled "An act for the relief of John G. Camp," was read the second time.

On motion by Mr. Wilson,

Resolved, That it be referred to a select committee, to consider and report thereon.

Ordered, That Mr. Barbour, Mr. Wilson, and Mr. Roberts, be the committee.

The bill entitled "An act for the relief of Jonathan Rogers, junior, of Waterford in the State of Connecticut," was read the second time.

On motion by Mr. Daggett,

Resolved, That it be referred to a select committee, to consider and report thereon.

Ordered, That Mr. Daggett, Mr. Varnum, and Mr. Roberts, be the committee.

A message from the House of Representatives by Mr. Dougherty, their Clerk:

Mr. President-The Speaker of the House of Representatives, having signed an enrolled bill, I am directed to bring it to the Senate for the signature of their President. And he withdrew.

The President signed the enrolled bill last reported to have been examined, and it was delivered to the committee, to be laid before the President of the United States.

The Senate resumed as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill, entitled "An act, to authorize the discharge of James Jewett, from his imprisonment," together with the amendment reported thereto, by the select committee. On motion by Mr. Varnum,

Ordered, That the further consideration thereof, be postponed until Wednesday next.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the bill entitled "An act, for the relief of George S. Wise."

On motion by Mr. Roberts,

Ordered, That the further consideration thereof be postponed until to-morrow.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill, authorizing the sale of public lands, together with the amendment reported thereto by the select committee; and the amendment having been agreed to with an amendment, the President reported the bill to the House accordingly.

On the question-"Shall this bill be engrossed, and read a third time ?"

It was determined in the affirmative.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill, to fix the compensations of the officers of the Senate therein mentioned, together with the amendment reported thereto by the select committee.

On motion by Mr. Lacock,

Ordered, That the further consideration thereof be postponed until to-morrow.

After the consideration of executive business, the Senate adjourned to 11 o'clock to-morrow morning.

TUESDAY, JANUARY 23d, 1816.

The President communicated a letter from Gabriel Moore, Speaker of the House of Represen tatives of the Mississippi Territory, enclosing the proceedings, in relation to the nomination of two persons, one of whom to be commissioned to fill the vacancy in the Legislative Council, cccasioned by the resignation of the honourable Thomas Barnes; which was read.

The President also communicated the memorial of Daniel C. Lane, and Patrick Shields, associate judges of the court of Harrison county, in the Indiana Territory, in behalf of themselves and the said county, praying an additional member may be given to the said county, should the

Territory be authorized to elect delegates to meet in convention, for reasons stated in the memorial; which was read.

On motion by Mr. Morrow,

Ordered, That it be referred to the committee appointed the 2d instant, on the memorial of the Legislative Council, and House of Representatives of the Indiana Territory, to consider and report thereon, by bill or otherwise.

On motion by Mr. Lacock,

Ordered, That Mary S. Tyson, have leave to withdraw her petition, presented the 18th of April, 1810.

The Senate resumed, as in committee of the whole, the consideration of the bill, to fix the com pensations of the officers of the Senate therein mentioned; together with the amendment reported thereto by the select committee.

On motion by Mr. Fromentin,

Ordered, That the bill be re-committed to a select committee, to consist of five members, with instructions to inquire into the expediency of increasing the salaries of all the officers of govern ment, and report thereon.

Ordered, That Mr. Fromentin, Mr. Lacock, Mr. Macon, Mr. Daggett, and Mr. Varnum, be

the committee.

The Senate resumed the consideration of the motion made the 15th instant, for the appointment of a committee, to inquire whether any provision is necessary for authorizing the paymeut of the.

sums, which the Senators and Representatives are entitled to receive, in compensation of their ser

vices.

On motion by Mr. Dana,

Ordered, That the further consideration thereof, be postponed to the first Monday in December next.

The bill authorizing the sale of public lands, having been reported by the committee correctly engrossed, was read a third time.

Resolved, That this bill pass, and that the title thereof be, “An act, authorizing the sale of a lot of ground belonging to the United States, situated in the town of Knoxville, and State of Tennessee.” Ordered, That the Secretary request the con currence of the House of Representatives in this bill.
